Planning on buying today - Page 2

Everything ffejrx said. None of the free motherboards support FULL HD playback acceleration (none of them support flash/youtube acceleration and HD media file playback is partial). The RAM is also always best bought from Newegg. DDR3 RAM elsewhere is often at poor value. You can get an MSI 880G motherboard (just don't dare unlock cores on it) for another $10.

Pardon me, but I don't think my netbook sucks. The idea of netbook is portable, convinient access to internet and documents, and it does it perfectly fine. What do you expect? To play Crysis on 10 inch?

It is the perfect addition to my rig - Windows Live Mesh on to keep IE Favorites, documents and projects synced between rig and netbook + 8 hours of battery life.

What exactly sucks?

Oh, did I mention I can watch 720p HD movies on it while I'm long-distance travelling?

I would have to agree with ronin but I might point out that ffejrx can be right, most netbooksnwith intel atom processor cannot playback even 720p at all and can have trouble with YouTube tasks. However, a netbook on the AMD e series or c series platform will accelerat hd fine for the same cost. Ad for other basic tasks it is fine.

I wouldn't get a netbook! Seems like you wanted midrange pc, so why a buy netbook not unless for portability? I'm currently near the end of my new pc build and my budget was around $300 and I bought the same Phenom II X2 560 (bundled with a FREE Asus M5A78L-MLX board) your thinking about.

ok, i stand corrected, all intel atom netbooks suck (the dual core ones are slightly better)
some amd ones are ok for youtube and netflix ect..
but try to do more than 2-3 things on it and they will crawl to a hault

the notebook i linked is huge, but has good battery life and can run damn near anything
from hd youtube to crysis on low, and wont have any issues

Thread Starter
I highly doubt a netbook with a Lightweight linux distro will crawl. I have run xubuntu on a mobile p3 that ran just fine. so i think a dual core atom, with 2gb ddr3 ram would run absolutley fine for the likes of youtube, torrents, and just random internet stuff.

Editlanning on getting a Toshiba NB505. anyone have any horror stories?

So i finally 'Pulled the Trigger' and bought an acer aspire one. for 250 and got a 50 dollar gift card with it. I feel like thats a great deal. seeing as it has an amd c-50, 2gb ddr3 ram, 250gb hdd, and an ati 6250 as well as a 6 cell battery instead of the 3 cell toshiba i was looking at
