Go with MX 4, Shin Etsu or IC Diamond.
Of these 3, what is recommended and why?

However, AS5 is showing its age. It was once the top of the heap, but now has been outpaced by some of the newer, better TIM's already mentioned.
How is it non-conductive? It has silver in it.

It's capacitive, not conductive.

http://unescocatalog.com/arctic-silv...pound-535.html

"Not Electrically Conductive: Arctic Silver 5 was formulated to conduct heat, not electricity. (While much safer than electrically conductive silver and copper greases, Arctic Silver 5 should be kept away from electrical traces, pins, and leads. While it is not electrically conductive, the compound is very slightly capacitive and could potentially cause problems if it bridges two close-proximity electrical paths.)"

Having silver doesn't automatically make it conductive. Wrap a brick of silver in teflon and try running a current through it.

And you believe that? Sure, maybe there is a difference, maybe one paste is better then the other, but a 15C difference? Yeah, maybe if you compare a crap brand cheap paste to a high end one and lap the CPU. OR if your previous paste was mounted wrong, then you would see 15C differences...

IC diamond 7 is pure crap wasted my money on it and its really hard to clean off the CPU. AS5 is ok but Noctua NT-H1 thermal paste is the best i love it so easy to push out the tube. gave me a 3C drop in temps over IC Diamond 7. and a 2C drop in temp over AS5
post #17 of 27
Yep, Noctua gives you beast thermal paste if you buy the heatsink.
I like noctua, sure it costs a little more, but it's super cheap if you count that you get a great thermal paste, great (otherwise pricey) fans, low noise adaptors, rubber and screw mountings, you even get a screwdriver

I'll test it this weekend and compare the load temps.
