[Kotaku] Is a 3DS XL Incoming?

In spring 2010, Hitachi showed off a 3.1 inch screen that could reproduce 3D graphics without glasses, shortly after Sharp revealed a 3.4 inch one.

At that time, rumors swirled that either Hitachi or Sharp would be providing the 3D top screen for the then unreleased 3DS. Since then, details have been scant about who exactly provided the 3D screen.

Today in Japan, Hitachi revealed a new 4.5-inch glasses-free screen, leading to speculation online that Nintendo is readying a 3DS XL. In the past Nintendo stated that customers should not wait for a new 3DS hardware iteration.

Nintendo always does this, the DS Lite was no different. Game Boy Pocket/Light, Game Boy Advance SP, DS Lite, etc.

It was inevitable that there'd be multiple revisions of the 3DS.

I quite liked the DS Lite. Fixed almost all the problems of the original DS. The thing that pissed me off was that the GBA games wouldn't fit in all the way... That was the only flaw...

As for the GBA SP, that was the best of the best in the GameBoy series.

Of course there will be a 3DS XL. And then another one to keep the sales going. I bet they have a whole list. First XL, then more colours, then XL colours and smaller, etc etc.

I find that my 3DS's screen is perfect sized.

Have any of you seen a DSi XL? HUMONGOUS.

I don't think I'd enjoy carrying something like that around.

I wouldn't mind a larger screen since I only play my handhelds at home, though I do like the 3DS's current form factor. If it wasn't for the front-facing camera they'd actually be able to bump the screen size up some without having to make the system itself much larger.

I already have a 3DS though, so none of it really matters to me.

i get annoyed when sony does this... wonder how nintendo people feel when they do it 8 times per year.

I need to get me a DS Lite one of these days, ability to play gba and ds games,

I thought nintendo was hurting though, or in for a rough year with bad sales right now? That might have been a rumor thread though. The 3DS was selling pretty poorly according to that article, price probably being at least one of the big factors in that, an even more expensive/larger 3DS, well that doesn't really help the marketability of that does it? Unless the current XL's sold really well, then it could be a worthwhile move...
