[MR] MacBook Air Line Updated With Sandy Bridge, Thunderbolt and Backlit Keyboards - Page 5

Why get rid of the macbook - it makes no sense at it was a staple of their educational segment. In the good ol' days of the ibook and powerbook (yes, the powerpc ones) apple laptops represented better value than their windows counterparts, though the imacs of the time were not as good value compared to windows pcs of the time. Apple has lost its way, its very essence of meaning - of being a Computer company first. There is such a price differential it is untrue. Macbook Air or Macbook Pro, but no macbook.

they're still selling it to the education segment... http://www.macrumors.com/2011/07/20/...-institutions/

People are gonna buy the new air 10/10 times over the Macbook... at the same price who isn't???

Why would they sell a product that isn't in demand and won't make money. They are a computer company first... that's why they make the best lap tops on the market. Why would they make 3 lines of Laptops if the air and macbook pro covers everything?? they can barely keep up demands of the Air and pros.

If I wanted to access the menu of a window in the bottom right of my screen I'd have to drag my mouse down to the window, click to focus it, then drag it all the way up to the top of the screen and use the menu.

In Windows the menu is just right there with the actual window. It takes one click, compared to two on the Mac. This is a fundamental design principle. Forcing the user to move back and forth across the screen is bad, as is having no clear link between the window and it's menu.

man i'm not even gonna argue this. i have both windows and mac laptops.. a sandy bridge desktop... there isn't 1 thing in windows that is easier or faster then OS X. on my Air, i just swipe and there's no clicking ... no alt tabbing...

man i don't know why Windows users are so hard headed. I'm a avid windows user... but i can't believe how many people hate the OS X to say such things. Even to eject my External H/D... i gotta go through the both right task bar to eject it on my windows... On my mac it's right there next to the H/D. there's a million things i could list...

how sad
Student who only uses Word, Safari and maybe iTunes doesn't need more than 2GB of RAM, for me personally 2GB is almost enough but doesn't quite do it, for +50% of users out there, 2GB is enough.

Their consumer models are garbage but once you go business with them, you won't go back. Eg. Elitebook series.

I don't think it was a good move, taking the optical drive away from the Mac Mini.

The Mac Mini is aimed at casual users (IMO), especially those who are starting to move away from Windows, but still want to use their own equipment (display, keyboard, mouse, etc.). Without an optical drive embedded in it, I'm sure that's going to turn away a lot of parents or grandparents that wanted to use it to watch family videos, or a slideshow of family vacation photos, or installation discs, etc.

I was waiting to get a 2011 MBA, but now that i see it has a HD 3000 **** i dunno.
I want a slim great looking laptop for school and programming, but to be able to play SC2 Diablo 3 on low/medium (Sc2 only 1v1) you think the MBA 2011 version will be able to do that fine?

not long term play but just to turn on when im away from my rig at home to take a break from studying

I hate saying this again.. On OS X the difference between the 320M and the intel 3000 HD is so minimal. The 3000 even beats the 320 on benchmarks. So people put too much into it.
