Msi 890fxa-gd70 bios 1.a

Thread Starter
Has anyone updated to BIOS 1.A (Release Date 2011-06-30)? It say it has improved memory compatibility. I am currently using version 1.9 and can't get it to let me run my G.SKILL 1600 4x4gb memory, at what it is actually rated for. sadsmiley.gif I have to decrease to 1333 and lower the timings. I was wondering if this update would help.

From MSI's website -
Version 1.A

Description - Update CPU AGESA code.
- Update LAN ROM.
- Update M-Flash module.
- Improved memory compatibility.

Yes I have it at it's rated voltage. It's rated at 1.5v and i am at 1.55. I just got my overclock on my CPU and NB completed and 24+ hours stable, and am working on getting it just to the rated specs and than tighten the timings.

Maybe I just need to give it a good bit more voltage, and if that doesn't work i'll go with the bios update. I'll play with it when i get home from work tonight.

Furrby when you do update can you report back with any improvements if you notice any?

I have a GD65 version of the board but flashing on MSI boards seems to kill your OC.
I can no longer OC via FSB or else the bios just crashes, watch out tongue.gif.
*Might my CMOS battery dieing.

Interesting. I wonder if this is where my issue of "Hardware Reserved" memory is stemming from? I'm on 1.9 and out of 12 Gigs, 6 of it is reserved for hardware. System is slower and all the settings are the same.

I'll check out 1A and see if it helps.

I updated to 1.A but since nothing was wrong I didn't notice a difference. Go ahead and try the update, good luck and I hope it works for you.smile.gif

After updating tothe latest BIOS v 1.A I am facing issues with my Asus Xonar DX sound card. there is lot of crackling sound when I set the sampling rate to either 192 KHz or 96 KHz. but it works just fine when I set to 44.1 KHz or 48 KHz. This issue started when I first updated the BIOS to v 1.8, crackling sound only when the sampling is 192 KHz. Could someone please help me regarding this.

I have the same issue with this motherboard. I just did a clean win7-64bit install just in case. Downloaded the latest Audio Driver and have to set my sample rate down to 44 and 48 to NOT hear and crackling! Does any one have any ideas on this one?

usually music is only at 44.1 and 48Khz, if you set it any higher than its just upconverting the music to the format you set which would be 96 and some higher frequency.
