Phenom II x4 965 (OC & Heat)

Thread Starter
I am currently running a Phenom II x4 965 at 4.08ghz (240 FSB) @ 1.475 volts (although CPU-Z seems to always show .20 volts lower!). I am using a Corsair H50 (push pull intake). My temperatures are 61c max while running Prime 95 large FFT's, stable for 12 hours.

Two questions, why would CPU-Z always show a different value and are these temps sustainable?

I also am planning on doing a few fine adjustments on the voltage to get it as low as possible and stable.

Thanks!

Is it a 965 or is it an unlocked cpu?

i dont see how that can be stable at those temps....my 965 BE didnt like anything above 55 or it would be unstable. did you try running a CPU intensive game yet? say BFBC2? i always could tell if my OC was stable if it didnt crash on that or ARMA II

It varies per chip. Mine doesn't care even up to 62C.

CPU-Z shows the actual voltage, not just what you set in BIOS. Yes, but they are a little high. Maximum safe temperature is 62C. I wouldn't run at those temps with volts like that.

And it's 0.02v, not 0.2v. Why does everyone make that mistake?

I'll be running Metro 2033 when I get home tonight.

1.456 (guessing here, this is what I believe CPU-Z). Should I base my voltage on what CPU-Z says (while running a stress of course) or my Bios?

As I already made clear in my post, CPU-Z.

From what I heard 970 which is same chip as 965 maximum voltage is 1.55V. They are build to handle higher voltage intake. Your temps are little too warm, so you won't have room to increase volts.

60c @ 1.475v for watercooled seems too warm. What are your ambients like?

On that board!? DON'T DO IT
Phenom ii 125w and low end Msi board don't go together
You'll blow something up!

Thanks for the warning! Ugh, I hope the new MB I am buying, MSI NF750-G55, can handle it.. It's cheap.
