intel i5 540m vs i5 2410m

Thread Starter
Hey guys

Just wondering about a comparison between these two cpus.

This is the laptop I really like: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=34-115-990&SortField=0&SummaryType=0&Pagesize=10&PurchaseMark=&SelectedRating=5&VideoOnlyMark=False&VendorMark=&IsFeedbackTab=true&Keywords=%28keywords%29#scrollFullInfo

But this one has better specs for the same price: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834215119

I dont game (I just do photoshop and 3d animation) so the GPU probably wont make a difference at this low level we are still at.

So is the other one worth the low res and somewhat moderate ugliness? Or will it be approximatley the same for me either way?

Note: I will be upgrading to 8GB of ram either way.

Performance wise it won't be a big difference, but the second gen i5 will be a bit faster. Maybe ~10%. It also has a higher turbo if I'm not mistaken.

Of the two I'd pick the 15" one. The 17" is just too big for me.

You might want to look into the new TimelineX series, too. The keyboard is nicer. 4830T has okay graphics and pretty nice CPU for $700. I like the design pretty well, but it's a little boxy. Amazon has it in stock for the same price.

Edit: And like the other guy said, that 17" is really big. I like 14", 15.6" (or whatever it is) max. 1600x900 is also a pretty low resolution for 17". I think 1680x1050 is perfect (1440x900 minimum) for 15.6", though it might be difficult to find. As far as those 1080p laptops go, you probably want a 17" screen for that resolution. I've seen 15.6" screens with 1920x1080 and it looks ugly to me..or at least weird.
