Might try global agenda, kind of a 3rd person rpg shooter type thing. not a bad game and its free.

or look at older games, Diablo 2 is as awesome as the day it was made, and for a tenner you can easily sink hours and hours of your life into it online.

Guildwars is an extremely good RPG with rich visuals and an in-depth story line. that is also old enough that it should run on even a bad laptop.

if you can get past the trolls league of legends is a great creep hero clone like HON or DOtA

Sc2 has many custom game types and maps which are great fun for a laugh or if you cant get over the really intense learning curve to enter the standard games ladders

Has anyone mentioned Alien Swarm?

http://store.steampowered.com/app/630/

It's too good to be free, and as far as I remember its system requirements are quite modest.

He probably wants the game to remain "pure" instead of being "infected" by F2P'ers.

I stopped playing TF2 years ago, and was never big into it in the first place, but I really don't understand what the big deal is for the veteran players. You should be glad that your game is still supported and has a huge community after all these years, instead of bickering about the F2P system.

Sorry for off-topic.

Maplestory is honestly a grind fest. I play it, but not often. It's easy enough to level up now, but I'm not going to support the game. The community isn't as "gamer" like as commentators in WoW and such, the game is all about looks of your character and such, and then leveling, either by killing monsters over and over again or doing these things called "party quests" where a whole party basically does a mission and gets a huge amount of xp at the end. Since the quests you do by yourself have small amounts of xp, it's not even worth the time doing them unless they give you good items.

Honestly, the reason I play it is that it's the only game I know that doesn't really force you to use the cash shop to improve your character. You can buy better hair and stuff for your character...but that's about it. There's also some randomized vending machines called "Gachupons" which you can buy tickets for that give you really good items that you can sell.

If you want to try it, you can give it a shot, but it's honestly an anime-themed grindfest that's treated like an MSN client by most of it's users. So, don't get mad if you try it and think its bad

Give League of Legends a try. It is really fun. You may think "Oh no not another DoTA clone." But in fact I played DoTA a few times and I HATED it, yet I love LoL. There is just something about it. Seriously give it a go, your friends can get it too and you can play together, if that floats your boat. The best part is that it is free.

Look up a game called "Red Eclipse" - Great game, Multiplayer only though. It's completely free and it's tons of fun.
