Jesus Christ, it was a joke.

And technically most of the people on this forum don't follow PG standards, which ask for 8/12 physical (not logical) cores to do -bigadv.

Thanks for the compliment stu but it is ok I am starting to get use to it. Some people forget things like that when you point out things they do not like to hear.

There is no hack involved in the i7 8/12, Stanford Stated along time ago and still states that they are acceptable. What they say is not acceptable is using any methods to fool the servers into giving you a WU that was not intended to run on your hardware. IE telling the server you have 8 cores when you only have 6 telling the server you have 12 cores when you only have 8. People can try and twist it all the want but every one of us knows what Stanford has said and what they meant. As people we all have choices to make do we choose or do we choose the choice and consequences are ours to make and deal with.

There may well be further reductions in the future if all CPUs that could do it before the reduction can still do it.

All you have to do is use the right equipment and you are folding in the graces of the people that are running the show, Stanford.
That's correct. If PG make it clear it is not allowed (not that they request people not to do it), it won't be permitted here.

I hope we get a few more versions of v7 before that happens.

Stanford believes that positive reinforcement is better than negative, so they'll never use language any stronger than that, and people will continue to hide behind that excuse. However, the current status quo might be preferable to the future when coming changes provide additional positive reinforcement. When grey areas become too large, they are often made black/white again, and you may not like which side of that line you fall. In all likeliness, it will have been preferable not to stretch the rules so much and have stayed within the previous set of rules.
The source linked in that rule is a post by Dr. Kasson, where he clearly states:
Quote:
we would discourage it but aren't at the moment actively declaring it cheating if done without modifying the client.
That's more than just using positive reinforcement; that's saying while it's not encouraged, it's not a rule being enforced. The minute that changes, so will our attitude here. Until then, I see no reason not to continue with it.

When rules are not followed, or breaking them is flaunted as your team seems to be doing, the rules tend to get enforced more vigorously. Be careful what you wish for.

For example, they knocked 30% off the Bigadv points, and just shortened the deadlines on several projects.
