I didn't care to explain that because it's impossible to know, and quite frankly a moot point. At the time of release, DX10 and DX11 had already released, and most people I had talked to had already made the transition to at least Vista to take advantage of their new cards. Now, if you'd like me to take a stab at it I will:

Probably did that because the people that were still running DX9 cards at release wouldn't have the power to run AA higher than the consoles at today's resolutions anyway.

Or maybe it's because they didn't care to add it to DX9 since DX9 it's self was added so that the consoles would support the game.

Or maybe DICE doesn't like you.

Anyone's guess is as good as mine. However, the fact that modern games are still supporting DX9 blows me away. Microsoft is probably largely to blame, as they required an OS change to be able to use it; something I hope they never repeat in the future (although undoubtedly will).

Glad to see that at least BF3 requires Vista or Windows 7.

Pure crap. That's not even close to being a "moot point", it is more than relevant since even with AA, it didn't even come close to using the GPU, as it was idling half the time. I have DirectX 9 games from 2007 that use my GPU better than this game.

Like I said before, it's clearly a console port. Post as much techno-babble as you want about engine specifications, fact is, this is a console port.

I want whatever it is you're smoking... In DX9, it used like 10% of a GTX 460 in low-power 3D state, which means almost halved GPU core/shader clocks. It would barely stress a mid to low end 8000 series Nvidia card.

LOL @ all the people that made threads about future proofing for BF3. These specs are really nothing.

I'm sure a dual-core at a decent 3GHz+ will run it fine in the end. These are just for the alpha test.

It is a moot point because most PC gamers have moved on. I suspect, like I said, that DX9 was added, and kept, simply for XBox support.

I can't see your current rig, so I can't comment. Saying it doesn't come close to using the GPU makes me raise an eyebrow, as a single 5770 creates a bottleneck for an AMD X4. This makes me think that you probably are CPU bottlenecked. But again, speculation as I cannot see your rig.

You can try to downplay "technobabble" as much as you want, but when it comes down to it, BFBC2 and the Frostbite engine will use your graphics card as much as your CPU will allow, and vice versa. Unless, of course, you have V-Sync on.

Modern games use much more CPU than they did in the past, so don't be surprised if an older Dual Core can't max out your GPU in BFBC2.

BFBC2 = console port. I wish it wasn't, but it is.

Ah, yes, I've heard Nvidia has had some issues with this game. Would have thought they'd fix that with drivers by now. But I suppose I figured the same with AMD and Crysis 2.
