To "OC" or not "OC" that is the question.Phenom II X6 Black Edition 1100T

Thread Starter
Evening guys, well sitting with me rig and she's finally all built the way i want it, threw in a 64 gig SSD today and stripped and mirrored a few hard drives, temps are fine and everything is working the way it should be, touch wood!

I know that I'd posted a while ago and was advised that the board was a poor design as the mosfets are 4 + 1 125w and I'm running a phenom 1100T black, so the talk of any OC was out of the question, would i be playing with fire, "not literally if i wanted to bump it up a little.....

i guess i can sit on here and wait and see if i ever get another board that will allow me some good over clocking but for now i guess the question is "should i take a chance"

Any way, i seen another post with some screen shots of a bios in and thought that it might help me (and show you guys) where i am at and what the current system is rather than post a "i am a complete n00b and should stand well back" question...

CPU TypeHexaCore AMD Phenom II X6 Black Edition 1100T, 3700 MHz (16.5 x 224)

Motherboard NameGigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3 (2 PCI, 4 PCI-E x1, 1 PCI-E x16, Audio, Gigabit LAN, IEEE-1394)

System Memory4086 MB (DDR3-1333 DDR3 SDRAM)

Video AdapterATI Radeon HD 5700 Series (1024 MB)

here's a link to the board for your info.....

spec sheet here

and i got a few screen shots of the bios for you.

I have been reading a lot as well and been mooching around here so i have a little bit of an understanding and if you guys think i'll fry my board then happily tell me to get lost, i'll happily move along.

Thanks for your time.

Mo.

(p.s have got a H60 water cooler on her now, and i'm running a push/pull configuration, with an out let at the top of the case, 2 fans on the H60, one fan at the bottom right sucking air in....nice temps so far considering the way you have the H60's set up by sucking ambiant cool air in from the out side causing a negative pressure! see i have done some reading! and seen there's a few programs to stress test her that i've been reading about on here.)

Cheers

you might be able to get a little out of it, get it to like 3.7 or so. I would first get some heatsinks for the VRMs. The problem mainly will go with badly designed VRMs, gigabyte is good with their boards, so if you don't push it too far you will be good to go.

thanks for that, i struggled to find any mosfets coolers that would fit, that was a few month ago so maybe i should go and look again, i was stunned at the fact that it was a gigabyte and the market wasn't saturated with things for it, like mosfets coolers, and north and south bridge ones, that would fit any way......so don't do any thing until i get em?

i bought one of these a while ago and it doesn't fit, doh! might be able to make it useful for some thing on the board.....

and i also have some of these.....

Also have a small 3 or 4 inch small fan that I'm sure i can wedge in some where to add extra cooler for them, might dig them out and get them fitted as i guess any thing will be better than nothing.....

then maybe could you give me some advice on what to adjust?

thanks

Mo.

Well guys, been through all my junk yard and have come up woth the following items, i wish that the Enzotech MST-81 would have fitted the mosfets, then it would have been a great heatsink for them.

How can i measure the temps of the "mosfets" as i'd like to be able to see if any of the cooling measures that i try work.

I have a friend that does engineering and metal work so i think i'm going to ask him if he can engineer a massive mosfet cooler for me if this "temp fix" don't work.

Not sure how well the little RHS-02's will work as they really don't look up too much.

I took mine to 4.0Ghz without an issue. Although I'm sure it dependent on what kinda board you use.

Use an Infrared Thermometer. The cost of them isn't really worth the outcome though.
