get a 560 Ti over that 560 or a 6950. what res ya playing at?

and to be honest you could get by with a 955 oc'd to 4.0 ghz with a better clock imo my comp runs cs4 no prob and i get pretty decent frames and my rig isnt even OC'd (yet)

all in all when it comes down to it, its your comp. buy what you think is right for you!

but remember, if you go intel...i'll find you.

just kidding

or am i?

If you want to go AMD this go around that's fine... just be aware that as it stands currently, there is a lot more CPU oomf available on the sandy bridge side of the isle (especially on a per-core basis, and if you are willing to pay for it). If you intend to upgrade to bulldozer, then just snag a "placeholder" CPU (I like that term XD , good stuff). A $110-120 Phenom II X4 will be very similar to your familiar QX6700 performance wise. Just make sure to get a AM3+ mobo so that you have that upgrade path to bulldozer available. None of us can really say how BD will compare to Sandy. I'd be very surprised if the per-core performance was any better, but we'll just have to wait and see.

Generally speaking, gaming performance is most heavily dependent on per-core performance. Dual core i3 Sandy CPUs are beating the top end AMD X6s in many games because they have so much more performance where it counts, per core, rather than just having lots of cores. Yes more games are supporting multiple cores now, and most games that don't support multiple cores will run just fine on a phenom anyways so it's not a big deal...

If it's important to you to know you are getting the best possible frame rates, go for a 2500K. If you don't care too much about benchmarks and just want to play, AMD will be fine.

Eric

CASE: NZXT M59 - 001BK $50

MOBO: ASRock 970 EXTREME4 AM3+ $113 Shipped.

CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1090T $170

RAM: G.SKILL Sniper Low Voltage Series 8GB $60 (xd's suggestion)

PSU: Antec EarthWatts EA-650 $60 (Only problem is no sleeved cables)

HDD: Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB $55

CD/DVD: LG CD/DVD Burner $19

GPU: HIS IceQ X Turbo 6950 2GB $260. $240 w/ MIR.

SSD: Crucial M4 64GB SHELLSHOCKER! $100 (I'm about to buy that!)

$887. $867 after MIR.

BD Ready, but at that budget a i5 2500k build for almost the same price would beat it benchmark wise.

If you don't want messy cables getting in the way of your pretty windowed case then just get a sleeved Corsair or a Modular unit.
I really like this build, it's in line with something I'd suggest at that price

Also it has been confirmed that the AMD FX Series CPU will be shipping for revenues next month, so there will be no further delay for the FX and all those rumours pointing to an October release are false. But if you intend to pursue the alternate platform, the LGA1155 and K series platform makes for a great platform at the moment for high performance computing or gaming. The FX will have more cores through the new architecture and may be more suited for people who perform highly multithreaded tasks.

I say go for i5 2500k, a better MOBO say the ASUS P8P67 Pro, get the Ti version of the 560 & get better RAM, G.Skill ripjaws is a good example
