You sound like you should be on a console sir. That way you can have all the "optimized" engines you want that run on decade-old hardware.

Your opinion is exactly what it would take to hold the PC hardware industry back and remain stagnate.
I think I'm fine exactly where I'm at, thanks. I'm sorry, but software can be balanced for current hardware without needing to overcompensate with newer hardware tech.

The Unreal 3 Engine showed the world that amazing graphics can be done on a system that doesn't require massive hardware in order to run their products. I find that far more beneficial to me as a PC gamer than a developer that slaps on bloated software in order for me to buy better hardware just to compensate for it.

You can cheerlead them all you want, but my goal is pretty much the same as yours, just far more efficient. As soon as I have stock in the hardware industry though, maybe I'll hope the next Crysis can't run anything on max settings for the next three years on anything under two grand and still look like crap side by side with the next title from Epic or Dice.

It's kind of hard to tell, but so far it looks like the map is much more open and more like traditional BF maps than the maps in the BC series, which is great from my view.

The cool thing is even though it's more open there's still more places to hide with the way the engine works and being able to go prone. I can't wait to be prone in a bush looking out with my sniper

Don't care if it's not on Steam. They're getting my money for this game.

This coming from a guy with a 2500K and GTX295. Let me guess, you bought all that hardware so you can run benchmarks and watch your numbers go up?

Give me a break. Most of us on here buy our computers with the sole intent to be able to max out as many games as we can within our budget. If you're happy with just Source and Unreal games, you could have stuck with an 8800Ultra and a core duo processor. It's games like Crysis and the battlefield series (and any other game that claims to raise the bar in visuals and graphics) that drive the PC hardware market. People buy bigger and better hardware to be able to play their games maxed out with no lag and have the best experience they can afford.

I wouldn't call CryEngine3 "bloated software". The game might not be fun to you but the engine is still a tool that can be used to create other fun games and offer great visuals. There are plenty of fun games out there that don't have good graphics. Heck, I'll jump on an N64 and still play Super Smash Bros. cause it's fun. But I also love new games that tax my hardware and push the envelope of game capabilities to their max.

Thank god some people have half a dam brain cell left.

I hate and i repeat HATE you stupid whiners. Friggin alpha for god sake.

DICE dev's must really hate some of the gaming community, they release an alpha for constructive critical feedback and what do they get? Pompous, arrogant, IGNORANT nerd gamers who just sit back thinking the world must deliver on their every miniscule want. Could not agree with you more about an IQ test needed for posters on this forum.

Settings are obviously turned way down for alpha, for example this small clip looks like it's on much higher settings and looks a lot better. So yeah, please quit the dam whining about it not looking fantazmo, you just wait till release day.
