i5-2500k CPU and fan slightly burned!

Thread Starter
Just built a new computer and the fan pins came far too in the motherboard and when i tried booting up the computer wouldnt even make a noise and i tried a few times more after realising something was wrong with the CPU. So i opened it up and found out that this had happened ; http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/667...0721015103.jpg

What should I do now?

Unless I am missing something in the photo, that's thermal paste, not a scorch mark. It improves heat transfer between the CPU and the heat sink. It's supposed to be there.

Presumably there is something wrong with your setup, but nothing is evident from that photo.
I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be seeing, although it looks like you might do a better job spreading your thermal paste.

What do you mean about the fan pins "came too far in the motherboard"?

Doesn't look like it got burnt...Looks like some copper is showing through where the thermal paste was

I think avalys is correct, I don't see anything wrong other than the thermal paste has a line in it for some reason.

Ahhh yeah. Fail . Should I try again or apply new paste?

Yeah... I see no burn marks or scorch marks. All it looks like is a void in the thermal paste.

Hmm, so wait. It won't turn on? Can you get passed the BIOS?

You don't really have to install the heatsink to see why the computer won't boot. Does the power supply even turn on? The green light on the motherboard on?
