Sager Release Cycle

Hey Guys,
I know that there is not obvious official word on this, but is there some sort of cycle that Sager/Clevo Releases their products on. I am interested in the 5165, but I don't need to purchase it for awhile. That being said, I wouldn't like to buy the laptop at the end of its life. Basically I guess the question is based on past experience when will the 5165 being replaced.

I believe they just came out with the 5165 about 3 months ago.

Ivy might have a chance coming out late this year but time will tell. But I don't think the integration of the mobile CPUs to laptop makers until early next year with new laptop models anyways.

Yea, I was reading online that people were thinking like CES time next year, so for Clevo to get them integrated we'd be looking at about Mayish you think? I can possibly wait till then (unless this desktop blows up), but would it be worth it, will it even preform that much better? Also, will the graphics cards change that much by then?

It depends. Is your current PC a POS? I mean thats almost a damn year. If you are just wanting to get into laptop gaming, I would buy now. But if you are shopping, I will be glad to help find the perfect Sager that will be somewhat future proof.

Eh its not a POS when it works, but I'm afraid the Sound Card and Hard Drives may be failing.
As for my current computer is got a
Core 2 Quad Q6700 @ 2.66 GHz
6 gig DDR2 RAM
GeForce 8800 GT
I think my plan at the moment is to make this thing last as long as it can, but I'm really worried about it going out and I don't want to be long without a computer when it does so I'm trying to stay on top of the laptop market for the next year or so. I know I have to buy sometime next May to June as I am going to college and I want time to work out the bugs before I need to rely on whatever laptop I'm buying.

Oh, I was mistaken. Well if you want to start now that would be fine but you can always. IMO I would grind that desktop to its bones.

Sager just started using the GTX580m in the NP8150, NP8170 & NP7282. The 2nd Gen Sandy Bridges came out sometime around March for Sager if I remember right..

I've been looking at getting the NP5165 for the last month but am also debating like you are. Asus and MSI would be more likely to come out with a newer mid model machine as they both just popped out higher end ones (Asus with the Lambo series and new G73/G74 and MSI with the GT780R) but haven't really put out a mid grade model for a bit. Personally I will be waiting for the Ivy Bridge as I'm not in dire need a laptop, yet, and if I do -really- need one I'll be getting a cheap $500 one to sustain me until IB.

Most likely you'll be waiting until a few months after Ivy Bridge hits the scene though if you are able to wait that long. There's just really nothing new to add new models or to upgrade existing models besides maybe Bulldozer.

I would suggest to start saving now, and buy later.

Alright guys, I guess I'll wait to buy for now, and hopefully my desktop can make it through until next spring. I'll start saving for it now though in case it can't, and I'll be lurking and posting on here to try to keep up with the industry until I make a purchase.
