Would my PSU handle this? - Page 2

In my opinion your PSU is enough given that your Kingwin can actually provide 624W. The TDP of each 9800GT is around 100 watts. TDP of the 6950 is 200 watts and realistically everything else including CPU/Motherboard/HDD/Fans won't pull more than the remaining 224 watts. Even if your folding on everything all the time your PSU should be enough.

Also there is the fact that if your PSU is properly built the most that will happen is that it will shut off and nothing bad will happen.

No, no, that's not what I meant. I meant, the power output according to them is not 52a. It's actually 74a if you add up all 4 12v rails. Now what I am confused about is which one is accurate - the sum of all 12v rails according to them or the actual ratings of the individual rails.



So how does this work? 18+18+18+20 = 52?

I can't remember how to explain why it doesn't work this way, but it doesn't.

I understood you perfectly before because this is about the millionth time I've seen someone ask this (but it doesn't bother me because it just doesn't), but I'm trying to say that it just doesn't work that way. 74A is 888W. The LZ-750 has a +12V capacity of 624W which is 52A. 52 multiplied by 12 is 624. 624 divided by 12 is 52. That's how it works.

Thank you. I hope I haven't been a bother, I just assumed you didn't realize what my question was. 52amps it is. I'll just grab a 460, probably a better choice anyway.

I really wish I went for a single rail like I was originally going to until the comp store horror-storied me out of it.

His PSU has the total capacity in the 12 volt rail to provide 52 amps. What each individual rail rating is specifying is the maximum you can draw from that rail at any point. If you try to pull more than 18 amps from rail 1 then it would shut the PSU down. If you try to pull 18 amps on all the rails at the same time it will shut the PSU down because your going over the total amperage of 52 amps.

Maybe someone just liked the idea of being able to say he had 3 gpu's

The other reason was because I could get a GX2 for about $70 used, while a 460 would be pushing my budget at ~$110 used
