I take it you've never played SSB before?

There's a cursor by the player's names, for P1 it's a red circle. Move your cursor over that and hit it. Then scroll to whatever character you want.
As for gamepad support, download Joy2key or Xpadder and you can set them to whatever buttons you want.

Here's a picture for clarification.

It was supposed to be an Easter egg and turned to be a joke. It was posted in a magazine and online. I can't stop remembering how many hours I spent trying to get them. I think the challange was to last 20 levels or so in the survival mode killing those polygon guys.

That's what I'm trying to do. How do you hit it? I can move the cursor, but I can't get any key to actually pick the player or anything on the screen.

Check your button config in the options menu. You have to hit A to select.
By default, it's set to "O", I have the controls listed in the OP.

Looks like its time to build a small PC, buy a nice television and move back in with my college room mates. It has been nice knowing you, reality. Is the game play the same? Not that I would remember them, but the moves and timing were important.

It's essentially the same. The game was developed by a team of hardcore players for years, so most of the nuances have been accounted for.

It's still 2D based if that's what you're worried about.

Is there a site for the guys who developed it?
