auto oc vs manual oc on i5 2500k??

Thread Starter
hey guys i haved been having a problem with my cpu. i put x49 on bios and 1.37v. when the pc boot windows show 4.9 and cpu-z too. But when i run prime 95 cpu-z shows 4.1 so people told me to disabled all c-stated- disabled speedstep and sprecstrum(or whatever the name is ) i try everything and the problem still. so i just did the default auto oc ( 4.0 4.2 4.4 4.6 4.8) i choose 4.8 with voltage my own manual voltage at 1.37v. and now cpu-z while running prime 95 shows 4.8. so my question is whats the different about auto oc and manual oc???? and also does auto oc increase others voltage??
i dont understand why on auto runs ok but on manual prime 95 shows 4.1 when im at 4.9

my mobo is asrock p67 pro 3 (b3)

First fill out your complete system specs here. You should always manually OC, auto OC is crap.

What I think the problem is: many boards have a power draw limit. My board calls it "CPU Current Capability" and is set to 100% at default. What you should do is increase this number very high, because if you don't what you're experiencing could very well happen. Different boards call it different things, but basically you're looking for a number either in amps or % that limits the power draw or current of the CPU. If left at default, it could cut you off for example at 4.1ghz no matter how high you set the CPU itself.

76C is fine. If power limits are in effect, it might not let you go above the 4.1ghz value, even if you set it to 4.5ghz, 4.6ghz, etc... Filling out your specs would help like I said (user cp > edit system)

Anyway same thing I recommended helped someone else Manual is better because it allows you to tune the vcore to what it should be. Auto surely sets it inefficiently.

What exactly have you set to auto? By the way read these:

P67 Sandy Bridge Overclocking Guide For Beginners

The ULTIMATE Sandy Bridge OC Guide

When you have some time go through the motherboard manual and try and get an understanding of what the different options in the bios mean, alternativly check those guides..

So is "CPU Current Capability" the same thing as the Power Limit?

If so, should I increase from default 100%, to something such as 110,120,130,140%?

140% is shown in red.
