Which one has HDCP issue, monitor or video card?

Hello, experts:

I recently added a SONY blu-ray drive into my PC and found it does not play blu-ray movies. According to Microsoft, it was due to their not having blu-ray license. It says that I have to get a 3rd party software on my own. OK I bought Corel WinDVD 2010. Then WinDVD refuse to play, Blu-ray or even DVD movies, error message says "Your display environment does not support protected content playback". My video card (Sapphire HD, see my system profile) claims "HDCP ready" and my new monitor (ASUS VH236H) says supports HDCP. And they are connected with DVI. I tried dual as well as single monitor modes, made no difference whatsoever.

How do I find out where the issue is?

Have you tried different Blu-ray movies?
Any luck with updating Blu-ray drive firmware?

I personally never had any problems with Blu-ray movies since the software that allows me to play it (Cyberlink) as well as the 'Automatic Firmware Updater' that keeps my drive up to date (shown below) keeps everything running smoothly.

Didn't your Sony Blu-ray drive come with software? I'm sure even OEM drives come with them to prevent issues like what you're currently running into right now. Otherwise I would just return it and find something better that actually comes with the necessities you need to run Blu-ray movies.

Try these measures, in order:-

1) If you have more than one display connected to your PC (eg a monitor and a HDTV), then disconnect all except the one display which you want to use. WinDVD might give this error message when it detects there are more than 1 display connected. It thinks you are trying to make a copy with the 2nd display and so it will not work.

2) Update all your drivers (including audio) and run DxDiag to make sure there is no error.

3) If you are using a retail copy, it is possible that it is not updated enough. When Corel released the product, they rushed it out and so its compatibility with Win7 is not very good.
So, download and install all those updates from Corel. I see there are 2 Service Packs released already for WinDVD (and 6 for the Pro version). Install those that you have not.

Yes I tried all different movies, blu-ray as well as DVD, same results - not playing. My Sony Blu-ray drive was ordered from newegg.com and it came with no software at all. My WinDVD was a download version from Corel just couple of days ago. (too bad it won't refund me) . It shouldn't need update but I'm trying it anyway... will let you know the results...

Found a solution by accident!

I downloaded AnyDVD trial version and it seems working. After deleting AnyDVD when trial period ended, WinDVD continues working with blu-ray discs. I tried single and duo monitor mode, no issues. I even tried one DVI + one VGA mode, it works without problems as long as the playback is on the DVI monitor.
