Questions about starting World of Warcraft

Thread Starter
I've played multiple MMORPG's before but I have never tried out World of Warcraft so I will be trying out the Free Version. I have some questions before I start.

1. I like dealing heavy damage to my targets from a distance. I don't really care how much HP I have, I just like dealing lots of damage from far away. Which class and race would you guys recommend?

2. How much does the monthly payment cost (in USD) if I pay via credit card?

3. Which version should I buy? As a beginner, should I buy the battlechest which comes with TBC? Do I need any other expansions as well?

4. Which server should I start out in? Should I start in one of those new-player servers or go straight to a regular server?

5. Got any suggestions or anything else you need to tell me before I start?
1. Mage or Hunter.
2. $15 for month to month, there are longer subscription plans that reduce the amount.
3. You need TBC to play Blood Elves and Draenei and to get to Outland at level 58, WotLK to play Death Knights and to get to Northrend at level 68, and Cataclysm to play Goblins and Worgen and to access the post level 80 zones. Make your decision based on that.
4. I prefer medium to high population PvP servers, but this is really a personal preference thing.
5. For the Horde.

^ what HWI said, except for the PvP thing..i prefer PvE, personally.

also: Horde ftw.

also also: everyone loves a spriest (MC), n then you maintain the option to dualspec to heals.

EDIT: the racial abilities differ..some are better than others for different people, depending on your playstyle and intentions..so often, which race a person picks is either w/ purpose or entirely aesthetic.

(my lvl'd toons: enh/enh shammy, frost/fire mage, blood/frost dk, and a hybrid rogue)

You pretty much will need all the expansions to fully enjoy the game.

I played since Vanilla day 1 until about a few months ago, that's over 6 years, and I was always in a Top 1/2 guild on whatever realm I was on, meaning I know what I'm talking about.

Mage/Hunter, racial bonuses simply no longer matter.

$15, never increases or decreases

I'm not aware of the changes they've made in regards to that, but, you can't judge the game based upon leveling, leveling in the game is basically just the start of the game, even once you reach level cap the game is just beginning. It's also relative to what you want to do, most people enjoy raiding, some enjoy pvp, others enjoy random things and leveling. You'll have to find out what you enjoy.

You'll need other expansions if you want to experience it's content, and obviously, almost all of the playerbase owns Cataclysm and is participating in it's content.

In summation, buy Vanilla first *Also known as world of warcraft haha*, then decide later on if you want to continue to another expansion.

If you don't want to be attacked by random people for no reason which will likely annoy you, then roll on a PVE Server, if you like to role play in 1st person, meaning as if it was real, try an RP server, if you want to be able to kill anything lower than you or people around your level play on a PVP server

In my 6 years of experience, I've learned that if you can't control yourself, the best piece of advice I can give you is simply DON'T START PLAYING. If you're capable of maintaining the time you put in and have self control then you'll be fine.

You need all expansions to get full experience of the game.

Get the battlechest. I know that lvl 70-s still have pretty big community in arenas and raids.

If you wanna stay away and do good damage, then go for mage. Pretty much one of the best caster class.

Also if you wanna go alliance, make human so you have advantage if you wanna do any pvp. Its racial is basically a PVP trinket, that gives you ability to use 2 damage trinkets ( if you start wow you get what im saying ).

Also go for regular server, or find out if some of your friends play already. Wow is way more fun if you already have people who you know playing it.

They've just recently started a new WoW trial replacement dubbed 'The World Of Warcraft Starter Pack'. It lets you choose any character other than Death Knight and level it to 20.

I suggest you start there.

There's not much more I can say that hasn't been mentioned already.

You kind of didn't need to say that in the first place, because that's what the Free version of WoW is.
