[Y!] As sales slip, Nintendo faces uncertain future - Page 4

I think that if the E3 conference this year is any indication of the direction that Nintendo is going then they have nothing to worry about. The Wii U is going to be more powerful than both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 hardware wise and will have full 1080p graphics. The screen on the controller might be their gimmick this time around and might prove to be either its savior or undoing. It will inflate the cost of controllers well above the normal. I happen to love the idea and think that it will be very useful both in games and out of them. Nintendo has yet release if they are going to include 3D in this system but I think with them currently being the only manufacturer of a 3D handheld console that it is very likely that they will.

I grew up with Nintendo and have owned every system that they have manufactured since the original Nintendo and will continue to buy them as long as they keep coming out with new ones. That's not to say that I don't have other methods of gaming as anyone that has had Nintendo Wii as their sole gaming console will tell you, its not great to be your only means of gaming. I also have 3 gaming PC towers, 2 Xbox 360's (1 elite and 1 250 GB slim w/ kinect) 1 Nintendo Wii, 1 Nintendo DS, 1 Nintendo 3DS, 1 PSP and a partrige (I know I spelt that wrong lol) in a pear tree. So I consider myself a connoisseur of fine gaming consoles and I am educating my children in the finer art of gaming so they don't grow up to be one of these not nosed brats who spend every waking moment playing black ops and when they kill you they talk crap for another 20 minutes until you point out the fact that the street lights are on so its past their bedtime. Then you ask to speak to their mothers so that you can make sure that your not accidentally their fathers lol.

Everybody already owns a Wii, why would they go out and buy another one? Of course sales are going to go down.

I'm glad someone said this. Nintendo's last console that had decent third party support and appealed to gamers was Super Nintendo.

Well actually the low point in their history was when they were partner with Sony to make a disc based console and pulled out of the project at the last minute. That decision spawned one of their biggest competitors. If they would have just went ahead with the console with Sony then they probably wouldn't be in the position they are in now but I got to admit that neither would the Playstation. So that might have been one of the biggest moments in gaming history because without that then Sony might not had made the same consoles they have now and that wouldn't had pushed Microsoft to achieve better. So without Nintendo's blunder, gaming might have been set back half a decade or so.

Edit:To back up my statement here is a link to a short history of the Playstation franchise. Enjoy

The Wii is fun and has just as many fun games as any other console, the problem is it's painful to look at on an HD display.

That means nothing as far as to indicate to whether it will be a success or not. PS3 was also reportedly about 10 times faster than its predecessor, that didn't stop it from being thrashed by the PS2 for a long time as far as sales went, even though Sony themselves wanted to kill it off. From what I've read so far about the Wii U, it will be an overpriced failure released way too early to an unready market (following the similar mistakes of Sega with their Dreamcast).

Pretty sad for Nintendo. I have to say though, the Wii U looks horrible. Miss those Gamecube days.

I don't think Nintendo has anything to worry about, they achieved complete market saturation with the Wii and made money hands over fist for years. I'm guessing Nintendo can survive even if the Wii U is a complete failure.

I can't say I see the Wii U bringing them back into the forefront. The novelty of it has pretty much worn off, and everyone who would have bought one has bought one.

IMO, in terms of console gaming, Microsoft is leading the pack, with Sony chasing after it, and Nintendo is sitting off to the sideline playing along with itself in its own merry world. A world that is slowly losing its color and charm.
I dislike this post as it makes me want to cry.

I strongly dislike the fall of a good, decent company.
