It wasn't criticism, it was simply indication that Super Mario is the only thing Nintendo can do right anymore, and when everything else fails (and it does) they always pull out the age-old title.
It's a bit sad when an entire console company is brought down to 1 game worth playing and it's the same title as 30 years ago.
You don't see Sony relying 100% on 1 game (e.g. Street Fighter) to back up their sales because they have countless other successful series/titles going for them.

true that.

even a cellphone game like angry birds is more popular than the italian hero.

Their own stubbornness will be their undoing.

Being a generation behind their competitors in terms of hardware.

Having a shoddy online service. Friends Codes anyone?

Basically no new ip's this generation while relying too much on establish ones.

Their systems are strictly gaming machines that can't play dvds or blu ray, although Netflix is a start.

Not enough storage third party developers. FFVII couldn't fit on a N64 cartridge. No HDD built into the Wii U for DLC.

Why not acquire newly established/talented studios and let them develop new IPs for you ? With your guidance and backing let them develop a lot of games across different genres and see what works with your fanbase and what not .

Is not this what Sony and MS are doing ? I hope Nintendo would do just the same .

Nintendo is always behind on the standard fare. Optical media, online connectivity, high definition graphics, etc. They say that HD wasn't needed for the Wii. They obviously weren't looking far enough ahead. They excel at innovation, but once the others copy and improve upon their stuff, they tend to fall behind.
