A little help please.

Okay guys. I need a little help here. Not sure if this is the right section but I'm very very very confused and I would like this to get solid in my head and know what the problem is.. or what's causing it.

So about couple months ago I had a computer. The computer was running well until it started freezing up. I reformatted it with a friends windows xp home edition genuine cd and it freezes up at one point of installing. So trying to fix the issue, I thought it was my hdd so I went to bestbuy and bought a brand new hdd and tried installing the same OS onto it. During installation, it froze.. again. Same exact loading spot. I thought this whole mess was because of my CPU. So then... I've decided, why not make myself a supreme computer?

Couple months passed. Now I'm here.. sitting next to me is a brand new custom build computer at almost 80% complete. Inside of it, I'm using the new z68 fatal1ty board, 8gb g skill series x 2133, stock fan (gonna get h50 later), 450 watts psu (gonna get 650 later), weak GPU and a HDD that came from my old computer (will change to spinpoint f3 soon). I only set it up with the weak stuff for now to see if my mobo has any problems. It doesn't so it looks fine. So from here, as I'm trying to install the same OS into my hdd, it freezes... AGAIN. Same exact spot of installation. So I thought.. damn. It HAS to be my old HDD that was the problem no matter what but my mind flashed back couple months ago when I tested a brand new HDD and the same issue occurred. So going through what I've gone through. I really think it has to do something with the operating system. I don't know what the problem is. I can't figure it out. I've heard when you install a operating system, you install it into your motherboard then it moves to your hdd or something.. which is the storage. So before I get the spinpoint f3, I really want to find out what the problem is because I have a big feeling that the same cause will happen.. again. I want to upgrade my home edition to windows 7 pro 64bit but I can't because it freezes up at one point of installing. So I got some questions here...

Knowing that the OS is installed into my mobo, is there anyway my mobo can be damaged?
Can I install another OS with another HDD to avoid this problem without having to do anything?
Is it possible that my DVD Rom is causing the problem when reading OS disk?
Is there a way to remove the os from my mobo?

I'm only suspecting OS cause there is nothing... absolutely nothing else that I can suspect. Sorry for asking stupid questions. I'm a real noob here when it comes to computer. I'll literally ask anything.. even stuff that doesn't make any sense. Thanks.

Your info is wrong.

OS can never install on the mobo, it always installs directly on the HDD.
Your XP CD is bad/scratched or if you're using the same CD drive, that might also be damaged.
That's why the installation breaks.
