cant be a wrong way of holding it really! Although personally i used to use method one and last year started using method 2, fits with the x8 ergonomics nicely.

If I need to scroll, I just move my index finger onto the wheel and scroll, and then move it back to the right click. My ring finger and pinky just hang off of the right side of the mouse. I have been doing this my whole life. Lets call this Palm Grip 1 - No, thats the orginal plam grip, your co-work dont know what he is talking about.

Apparently the correct way to hold it is index finger on left click, middle finger on scroll wheel, and ring finger on right click, and pinky hangs off of the side. We will call this one Palm Grip 2 - Fingertip holding.

Which way do you hold your mouse? Which one is the proper way to hold the mouse for best performance for gaming or just browsing?
Bold.
I have also to add that if the mouse have not comfortable right-side (Xai, Kinzu, Mx518, G400) so I put my middle and ring finger in the right click and the ring in the right side.

Edit: Saw your edit; I use a MX518 and still do this.

I use ... a modified version of Grip one when I game. While I use my first finger to scroll with, i use the side of my finger instead. This is really useful in my situation as i play alot of FPS.

Palm Grip 1 but I use my middle finger for scrolling.

I don't know much about mouse grips, but my index finger is on the scroll wheel and my middle finger is on right-click. I move off the scroll wheel when I need to left-click.
