Thermal paste?

Thread Starter
Yesterday I had some problem booting up a newly built computer with an i5-2500k CPU and then replaced the RAMs and replaced the heat sink on the CPU and everything started working as planned. In BIOS however I noticed that the CPU temp was at 97 celsius (206 F) so I turned it off.
Now I just bought new cooling paste (or what I was told was cooling/thermal paste) and after some reading about the paste that I just had bought I found out that it's something else and isn't recommended for CPUs.

The paste I bought is called 'Adhesive Thermal Paste' from Zalman.
Here's a pic of them btw; http://images.webhallen.com/product/63285

Should I use it anyway or buy new real thermal paste?

No, that is probably for putting Sinks on MOSFETs and the like..

Pick up some proper Tim. AS5, NT-H1, MX3/4.. They all do the job and are cheap.

Will an AS5 3,5g be enough? Looks like this; http://www.inet.se/files/img/medium/5321167_0.png right?

I do not think that is even thermal paste. As someone said its probably for something else.

Go pick up some proper paste. I would only use AS5 or IC diamond 7. I usually use IC Diamond and it does the job perfectly.

Yep that is it. That's all your going to need, it should be enough for about 4-5 uses. You just put a small pea sized dot in the middle of the processor. The heatsink spreads it on its own. Usually takes a day or two for it to be complete.

That's way more than enough. You only need a rice sized amount.

All the Name brand ones are within 0-3c of each other, it really comes down to how you apply it. I got best temps with the Rice size in the centre instead of just scraping the TIM on the CPU and my NHC14.

3.5g Tube would be plenty and good for a few re applies and if you can, definitely get MX4 as its very good stuff.
