Are there going to be some AM3 mainboards to support Bulldozer?

Thread Starter
I've read that there are going to be some mainboards which support the upcoming "Bulldozer" line of AMD CPUs. Mostly the more expensive amongst the AM3 boards.

My ASUS M4A89TD Pro/USB3 seems to be amongst these boards, even though there does not seem to be a final version of the AM3+ compatible BIOS yet.

Does ASUS still plan to finish that BIOS and make the Bulldozer CPUs compatible with the current line of AM3 Boards?

I want to know this mainly because I don't want to spend the dough on a new board after just about a year and also don't want the hassle with changing the board. But it's mostly the costs, of course.

I know that with the AM3 board I'll be missing some new features but I was told those aren't that important if I want to overclock. So I hope that won't be a big issue.

Thanks.

Right now, somewhere in Asia people are working on it, I can guarantee it.

There will be. Probably released shortly before or after Bulldozer itself is released.

Gigabyte already have a beta bios that support (suppose to) buldozer even for some cheap motherboard.

Yes, some high end ASUS boards, MSI boards and Gigabyte boards on AM3 socket with 760G or 800 series chipset will run the AM3+ FX Series CPU, however this is supported only by the mobo manufacturers and not AMD. Features will be missing also as only 900 series chipset supports turbo core and some power saving features.

The ASUS Crosshair IV is going to support Bulldozer, Quickly download it's BIOS before they get rid of it, because of AMD lol!

If it's a recent enough revision, it should with a BIOS update. Best to stick to AM3+ to be sure though.
