In that sense, the popularity of the iPhone is really just a metaphor for the sad state of the (first) world.
Or... or... maybe they are just happy with their iPhone? It works, it's really not that much more money. Not everyone gets a raging semi over megahertz. Some people are just happy to pay for what they know works.

If I don't know anything on a topic, I just stick with what I know and works, even if it is slightly more expensive.

You hit the nail on the head. The truth is, the iPhone is simple, and just works. Thats what most people want it for.

The iPhone IS overpriced. It REALLY is. Profits mean nothing. All profits prove is that people buy into the Apple garbage.

I could say VW are over priced compared to most rivals, but at the end of the day it is still a class leader for no real reason other than it's reputation.

At the end of the day, it's all about customer satisfaction.

No, it's not complex at all... but why bother changing when you're happy with what you had? If people are happy with their iPhone and it does what they want, why in Gods name would they change? The only reasons would be if they couldn't afford it any more and needed a cheaper handset... but hey, if you can't afford an iPhone, you must be fairly poor (in which case I pity you).

I never understood the whole 'iPhone is locked down' nonesense, I never ran into a single limitation on my iPhone even whilst it wasn't jailbroken, and as far as the blocking apps argument goes, this is testament to how many viruses and exploits there are on the Droid Marketplace compared to Apple.

Starting to wonder if you actually have a Galaxy S II. Jailbreaking an iPhone brings iOS nearly up to an unrooted Android, and even then everything you do is a workaround for the still locked down OS.

And there are viruses and exploits on the Android marketplace? I couldn't tell. There are 400,000+ apps on the marketplace, and suddenly its a major headline when an app that 5 people downloaded is removed because its malicious.

And you have to look at prices internationally as well. The iPhone 4 is $160 on contract here, while every phone but the Galaxy S II and Sensation are under $100 or free on contract, and they're all faster.

Apple is charging a premium for a year old device. And don't think this is just some vendetta against Apple. Imagine if nVidia simply responded to the 5870 by saying the GTX 280 was better, then kept it more expensive. Then we'd all be here bashing nVidia.

Well a note for all of you:

Insults (calling people "fanboys", "fools", or the like) do absolutly nothing but weaken your argument.

Also, if you choose to say something sucks, is worse, or whatever. Give at least a sentence or two of reasoning as to why.

Phones are lame...

I use it to talk & store phone contacts (I then migrate them to my PC)...

OK OK, you got me, it doubles up as an MP3 player, big deal!
