You'd have been better off with a F3 1TB hd
this is the third one of these I've used, theyre really great drives. it hit 130Mbps while installing software last night

In the past few years I've owned Seagate, WD, and Samsung

I'm not happy with Seagate (had one physical failure and one general failure) but the WDs and Samsungs have been great.

My HD purchases the past 3 years in order:

Seagate 7200.10 Barricuda 320 gig x 3
WD 500 gig aaks
WD 640 gig aaks x 2
Samsung F3 1TB x 3
WD 500 gig BEVT 2.5" sata 5400 rpm laptop hd

They are good drives, but run HD Tune and see if it can beat my old F3 (2 of my 3 drives have been tested, the third is in a external usb enclosure so only gets 30ish due to usb limitation)

Q6600 + P5B Deluxe (ICH8R)

E6400 + P35-S3G (ICH9)

I haven't had a chance to do any testing or benchmarking yet, but I will definitely run some stuff tonight and post the results

P.S. My 750GB Seagate just died too

Those are good scores, just a little behind in average and a few ms faster in seek. You need to remember my controllers are a few generations old also. ICH9 and ICH8R. Yours is the ICH10R so 2 generations better than my best chipset (the ICH9 is a stripped down R)

....... but at 150% the cost of the F3 I don't consider it a good deal

nvm, I found the drive your speaking of. the big things for me on the western digital was the 64MB cache for large file copying, and the 5 year warranty. when I do a file copy off of my ssd to my 1tb drive it sustains 130mbps for about 2 minutes before dropping down to about 90mbps, thats pretty good imo

Let us know how this build turns out. Im very curious about that evga board. I used to buy exclusively evga motherboards, but they were late to the game this time around. So I went with asus.

I'm not saying its a bad drive, just for less money you can get a equivalent drive. I like my WD 640 aaks (blues now, was the top of the line when I bought them, before the blue/black names came around)

I know its nice to move alot of gigs fast. From my 640 raid 0 to my F3 I see similar speeds, seems 115-130 is what I remember seeing most but havn't paid attention recently since I've had this setup for almost a year

Just ordered my first SSD, its a older and slower OCZ 30 gig Agility, but with the .1ms access time i'm sure it'll FEEL much faster.

I think i'm going to put the SSD in the e6400 though since I seem to use it most for general use

Gaming/Surfing setup:

E6400 @ 3.2
4 gigs ram
GTX 260 c216
WD 500 gig AAKS OS, WD 500 gig BEVT 2.5" storage, Samsung F3 1TB storage
.............. probably put the ocz agility here

Encoding audio/video DVD/BR Ripping/converting/encoding/editing
Q6600 @ 3.2
4 gigs ram
XFX 5770 1 gig
WD 640 gig AAKS x 2 raid 0, Samsung F3 1TB
... might put my Seagate 7200.10 barracuda 320 gig as a temporary "work" drive. Drive works but the sata connection is broken and will only stay on if I use the cable that has the plastic retention clips stuck inside. Drive works fine though

So that will be 2030 gigs with SSD os drive in the E6400 and 2620 gigs in the Q6600 with raid 0 os

Plus my thrid F3 1TB in external dock

will do.

My first impressions of the evga board are great! I'll put up some picture/ maybe a video of the bios and the boot sequence (which is super fast).

The bios are leaps and bounds better than the ones on my sig rig board.
