[Neowin] Rumor: AMD close to locking up CPU-GPU win for next-gen Xbox Console - Page 9

seeing how many consoles are sold in contrast to pc's is it safe to say that AMD will become stinkin rich if they got control of the big 3? (next gen wii, xbox and playstation)

finally I can see a free-RROD/YLOD world with consoles. I've killed one 360 phat and ps3 phat and still gives me a feeling that my consoles will die out someday. I guess having APU's will make cooling alot easier. only one heatsink so they can make it cool better

This would be stupid and lame. Dedicated parts are much better. Rather have a console with dedicated Graphics RAM and system RAM and a console with a dedicated GPU and CPU. I don't care if the console is as big as a ITX case, or an m-ATX case. Just give me a mini-PC that plays games very well. Oh and include a DVD drive of sorts or face oblivion.

EDIT:

Oh and this time, Sony, Microsoft, BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY IS A MUST. WE SEE THROUGH YOUR SHALLOW ATTEMPTS TO RELEASE OLDER PRODUCTS DIGITALLY, AND WE DON'T LIKE IT!

Why? Because there is more space to work with? Honestly I feel an APU is a much better pick for a console. You were never going to be able to upgrade anything on it anyways so this is definitely a move in the right direction for console makers.

While I can understand that dedicated components make more sense to enthusiasts like ourselves and lots of others, an APU makes far more sense in a console.

Doubt it. nvidia screwed them over pretty hard for some hardware that wasn't even good for the PS3. Don't think they'll want to go nvidia again unless nvidia offers them a killer deal [which is likely, since I doubt nvidia wants all 3 consoles to go amd]

Also, upgrading would mean that you would have to open the case, and do you realize how bad that would turn out for the general public? I can guarantee that a ton of people would end up destroying their consoles in the process, which means either bad publicity, if they don't fix them for free, or a ton of money spent replacing those consoles. Bottom line is if you want upgrade-ability, play on PC because that's the only place you're going to get it.
hv u seen the xbox 360 hdd? like that ghx card sould be, and u dont hb to code for thousand cards they will just exist 2 3 cards,,,anwsssssssssss

Despite your trashing of the English language, I understand what you mean. But it wouldn't make any sense for console companies to offer pcie x16 slots on their console mbs. Costs more money for them, and the average console consumer would never change out the gpu. Also games would have to be coded for several more cards.

And why would you use dedicated components when an all in one solution will perform the same relatively the same , use less power, and cost less to make? Pointless post is pointless.

Expandable hard drives is just an easy way to make money. Programing games to work with different types of video cards/gpu's etc., not so much.

Pretty much the exact thing I was going to say.

The only things I would add is that dedicated graphics cards range greatly in size, and often need auxillary power, which would mean having to open the case and plug it in. Any card that doesn't need a PCI-E 6-pin is most likely not even a worth wile upgrade to the APU, so it would just add unwanted cost. A Hard drive, no matter how much capacity is always the same size, and gets all it's power from the sata plugs, there's no cables to plug in, just slide it into the caddy, and you're done with it.

EDIT:And I still don't understand why you would want upgrade-able graphics on the consoles, we already have that, it's called PC's...
