[eteknix] Corsair H80 tested with stock fans and AP-15s...disappointing? - Page 3

Well said, CorsairGeorge. That is one thing I really appreciate about the various Corsair reps I've seen on forums. You guys don't try to just blow smoke up everyone's wazoo and say your stuff is the greatest of any competitor's products. I review for another overclocking website and I have an H80 review unit coming soon (got shipped to the wrong person). Since I still also have my H70 review unit, I also plan to retest it and probably will test both with each others fans included with them (besides the normal complement of fans I normally test with) and see if the increased cooling is due solely to the higher performance fans of the H80 or if the change in oem has also affected cooling performance too, due to the different rad and pump/coldplate assemblies.

Personally, I found the H50 to be lacking in cooling performance but the H70 pretty much rectified that and was up with tier 1 high end air in cooling capacity. But it lagged in the price/performance realm. I did like the way it cleaned up the area around the socket though.

Can you include a test of the H80 against the Silver Arrow or NH-D14, preferably using the same fans and same TIM? Many members have been waiting for a test of the H80 against the two best air coolers available today.

Check my post on the first page. There is a direct comparison to the D14 right here on OCN...

Sort of...the comparison was made using the stock fans each unit comes with.
I think what people are looking for is a direct comparison with the exact same fans on each unit doing the same RPMs. Exact same case, TIM, clocks, and voltage.

I won't be able to do that all in one review, but I should have readings from them that will be directly comparable once the tests are done between the H70, H80 and Silver Arrow. I sold the NH-D14 a while ago to fund other heatsinks to buy for testing. Since the H80 is a review sample, it will take priority over the Silver Arrow, which I ended up buying recently. My testbed rig is now set up where it will stay with all the same components and I always use the same TIM and if possible, test with the same fans besides the ones that come with the various heatsinks. Besides the stock fans, I test with the following sets in push pull:

GT AP-15 (1850 rpm)
S-Flex SFF21F
SanAce H1011
Delta FFB1212VHW

and finally I test with a single SanAce 9CR1212P0G03 in push (if possible). I have run into a few heatsinks I couldn't test with this fan due to it's size and weight.

So your saying that the best CPU Cooler to get right now is an H80?

Looking forward to the results.
