Replacing Intel Board and CPU With an AMD One

Thread Starter
Sorry if this is in the wrong place but its the only section that seems to cover both Intel AND Amd,

I want to replace a customers intel board with an AMD one, Will the Mobo and CPU/Heatsink all fit into the case properly if i buy a whole new board? Or would i need something else.

Many Thanks.

Long story short: A customer brought their PC into our shop. Some idiot thought it was a good idea to repaste it when it was perfectly fine and bent a few of the socket pins so it obviously won't start. I'm going to give them a replacement, already have an even better CPU and i just need a quick Mobo replacement and need to be sure that it will work in their case with the stock Athlon II Heatsink since i dont usually use AMD CPUs.

As long as the case takes a standard ATX/microATX motherboard, a new motherboard should fit fine. All AM3 boards should have the mounting system installed that will work with the stock cooler.

Thanks, i'll be using an AM3 Processor on a Compatible AM2+ Board. Can anyone reccomend a really cheap one thats still good? I won't need Onboard Graphics unless it doesnt have a PCI-E Port.

I can see a problem if you are trying to use the hardware that mounted a Intel cpu heatsink on anIntel board and then trying to use the same hardware on an AMD board. Most aftermarket cpu heatsinks came with mounting hardware to be used if the intended board was Intel and different hardware if the intended board was AMD. Perhaps I am missing the question here.

Yes, AMD hardware will work in a case that used Intel, so long as the case doesn't use a proprietary motherboard size, like Dell, HP, etc. often do.

Are you actually working in a computer shop without knowledge of motherboard standards?
