Looking to add a second SSD...

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

So I currently have the C300 64gb crucial SSD (6gb/s) and am wanting to add more space. I was thinking I would simply pick up the 128gb version of the c300, and use both, partition them together and bam, 180gbs of ssd goodness . Does this sound like a good idea? Or would it be worth looking into RAID 0 and stuff?

Cheers,
GA

Simple answer. Do it, and yes Raid them.

You will <3 life so much more with SSD RAID

Just be religious with your backups as you would with any RAID setup.

I've never had a raid setup... with my current 64gb setup... should I simply add a second identical drive? I honestly know next to nothing about raid...

Yes you want matched drives.

You will have to wipe the drive clean to make the raid array though. Anytime you build a raid set it wipes the drives. Keep your motherboard disc (or updated drivers from the net put on a flash drive) ready during Windows install so you can tell the computer what kind of RAID hardware to look for the hard drives in.

You'll make this array from a RAID configuration utility that is usually triggered by a button press ( usually ctrl +f12 or something) generally right after the bios splash.

Then you will want to make sure you set that RAID (will show up like a hard drive would) as the primary boot device. No point in having super fast SSD drives and having your boot time waiting on spinning DVD-ROM.
