Thread Starter
Ok so i have been out of the computer game for a half a year and i dont know what i should get. The old lga 1156 with a 2500k core i5 or the 1155? First off what is the main difference? Which is better?

the new sandybridge are only on 1155, 'replacing the 1156'.

EDIT: In terms of performance, you will get more bang for buck with 1155, 'better' is subjective for what YOU will use the rig for, but 1155 seems to be the better CHOICE. biggrin.gif

You can't get a lga 1156 with a 2500k, only the socket 1155.
The Sandy bridge CPUs are not compatible with 1156 sockets. You need an 1155 board.

Differences? Which should i go for a 100-200 board. These are both for the 1155? Im assuming z68 is gaming, but what are big differences.

Z68 allows SSD caching and onboard GPU, which I personally think is pretty useless features, however if you find that you will benefit from it, go for Z68 or just go for P67 if you find that you don't need the features.

Any mid range mobo would do the trick, I strongly recommend the ASUS P8P67 Pro or the Gigabyte P67 UD4/UD5 and if your on a budget then the Asrock P67 Extreme4.

EDIT: With a mid range mobo all of them share the same overclocking capability, it's truly down to the capability of the CPU, if the potential is there then the mobo will do it, again that's only if you on a mid range mobo. It's basically down to brand loyalty and past experience with brands that you should be thinking about when it comes to choosing one of these mid range mobo's.
