oh ok, thanks.

now, im pretty new to this (obviously), there would be no issues running a laptop drive in the desktop?

i imagine once it was upgraded i would just install all the proper drivers and everything as bwg mentioned and the drive would effectively now be a desktop drive?

sorry for the probably dumb questions just never done this before and want to make sure im not screwing myself up.

alright i might end up just doing that then, the full version is so much more expensive though

Well if you are a student I'm pretty sure there are ways to get any OS cheaper or maybe even free.

How much is the upgrade you were going to buy?

I know, I could tell you were a little new to it and I wanted to keep you below the law. However, if you decide to just do the upgrade, you could do it like this instead:

Get something like this.

Plug it into your laptop and plug your SSD into it.

Install this to clone the existing hard drive to you SSD.

Install the SSD into your desktop. Boot the computer and enter your bios.

Stick the upgrade CD into your DVD Rom Drive.

In the bios, check and make sure the DVD Rom is set to boot before the Hard Drive.

Save/Exit/Reboot/

Press any key to enter windows installation and upgrade.

You should still install the motherboard drivers when you boot. I would download them all to a flash drive that you can just plug in once you install the upgrade. Sometimes the internet won't work unless you install the wired or wireless adapter drivers first.

Full install is 100x better and legitimate. You would be pirating Windows if you did the option above.
