That is because they now include the easy mount kits with the blocks. To keep the price the same the blocks only come with jet plate #1. The default jetplate is #3, #1 is the proven highest performer (by Skinnee).

I think it was for only one person and done as a self promotion for his plating service more than anything. In other words he's trying to make money too.

On Topic: One of the new EN blocks are FrozenCPU now. I personally would stay away from EK nickel products for the time being until there is evidence that the problem is really gone.

Uh... you should do a bit research about that buddy. One member already in high standings on the site, offered to perform informal testing for free. In order to also perform a lab certified testing, RRTech raised money through donations on the site to perform those tests. The outside lab certified testing concluded that EK was not using poor quality raw materials, but at the same time the milling was poor (partially caused by hardness of raw materials), meaning the issue is caused by some sort of improper plating, which was also porous to the naked eye. Also, RRTech's site is privately maintained and without ads or censorship, meaning he pays for any remaining expenses out of his own pocket.

He offers a chrome plating service, I doubt that service is completely at cost. "Making money" doesn't necessarily mean the money is going into his pocket, it's highly likely that he is using it to support his site.

Either way I don't think that has anything to do with the topic. Just making people aware his service isn't a charity for everyone.

Him offering plating services and him offering to test for the credibility of the much talked about EK plating through an INDEPENDENT lab, has nothing to do with each other. He simply offers plating himself as a paid service. He did not test the plate himself... ever. Other people tested it. He had a CPU block without lacquer and purchased a EK nickel GPU block himself. His service IS charity. You didn't have to pay a dime yourself for lab's results. You don't have to get anything plated for him to ask for donations to run the test. To say that it isn't "charity" or that he is out to make money or promoting himself is irresponsible misinformation on your end. Anyone that has been around the WC scene long enough has more than likely heard of him, though typically more about him trashing other people for being shady.

On Topic:

I would just stay away from EK plated products for now until it is proven they can actually withstand the burden of time and silver. It is simply not worth corroding your loop for a shiny block from ONE company.

The other post came off as if you have an EK plating issue go to Red and he'll replate your blocks for free which isn't the case.

And I don't see how comparing his plating to a manufacturer's stock plating can not be construed as a form of self promotion. The independent lab adds more creditbility to his claims that he has the best plating service around. Yeah I could be wrong to say that was his main reason for replating the blocks rather than testing something like a Koolance block, but there is no evidence ruling out that reason so it remains as an opinion.

That being said, I do appreciate the donations the community has given and the work on behalf of the members of RRTech to make that lab study possible. I'm not denying that they did good work to find the root cause.

I think there is some confusion here? He did not re-plate the block for testing. The independent testing was for an EK plated EK block, not an RRTech plated EK block. He did not replate it and then test it again either. Again, the test was purely and simply for a non plated EK CPU block and an EK plated EK GPU block. You can find more information about it here.

Yes, he does offer plating services for people. As far as I know, he has not offered to replate any EK blocks free of charge, neither has that been announced on his website that I found. As for comparing plating, of course he would use his plated blocks. That is a plating services he offers and can speak for. He is not a Koolance rep, so it would be strange for him to offer another plating as comparison when he knows more about his own.

I love electroless plating. It's what I plate my blocks with when needed. This is an excellent move by EK. Personally I also find it looks better than electro-plating.

Do you have a picture handy of what it looks like after a while? EK talks about it wearing to a darker shade but doesn't show any pics.

Not handy any more. All of the blocks that I custom plated have since been sold. The most recent one I did was for myself, HK Rev3.0 CU, I had it plated top and base, everything, using electroless plating at a local shop that plates aircraft parts. The plating does produce a slightly "darker" nickel coat but I can tell you that after about 1 year of continuous use with deionized + silver it looked exactly the same as it did on day 1. I wish I still had the pics to show you...
