Should I pre-order Star Wars: The Old Republic?

Thread Starter
Hey,

Simple question not too sure if it's easy to answer though. Looking to pre-order SW:TOR but I'm really unsure as I've jumped on several MMO's over the years, (DC Universe, Champions Online (When it was pay to play), Eve, Star Trek Online, Etc) and they've all pretty much let me down. I'm a massive WoW fan. I know it's kinda hard to answer this as the game isn't out but I just want a second (or third) opinion on this. It seems like a lot of money to spend especially if it turns out to suck. I'd really like to play the game before it comes out which is offered by pre-ordering but if it does suck I will have wasted £45! I haven't paid that much for a game in YEARS!!

So do I bite the bullet and pre-order or just wait till it comes out, see the reviews and pick up based on them at a probably much cheaper price?

first of all...

no. dont preorder.

2nd of all: because they havnt got a release date.. (who knows ?! might be the new duke nukem forever!)

3rd: as you said, alot of recent mmo's really sucked. and buying them is then a waste of money.

the thing i'm gonna do is wait. Untill its released. and then at least a month. Seeing how it takes off. is it popular, does it crash, is there queues, is there bugs, is there anything to do in the game, apart from the dialog (Which is basically the only feature i've heard about the game.. lol)... is the leveling system good/boring?
end-game content? anything but pvp and forum classbalance whining, like in wow? tongue.gif
and so on and so on..

i've bought wow on release date (safe buy back then, blizzard always delivers) i stopped playing it now though. but as other people i've tried other mmos since then.. age of conan for example. i didnt like it. waste of money :< i'm not making that mistake again... thats why i only buy games with 85+ score on metacritic..(needless to say.. i rarely buy games)

I say do it. I preordered this morning. smile.gif

Edit: I think Star Wars is great and thought Galaxies was phenomenal when it was first released. So my opinion might be biased.

Hard to compare, though. SWG was a skill based sandbox when it was first released. This looks like a pretty cookie cutter theme park game. Still gonna get it. smile.gif

since the last several mmo's that have been released have been very disappointing (dcuo, rift, etc.), i would recommend NOT pre-ordering. as others have mentioned, there is still no release date. granted, it will most likely be by the end of this year, no one knows for sure. i am personally going to wait for a free trial before plunking down $60+ of my money. how pissed would you be if you spent $60+ and only ended up playing it for one month? i am really hoping they put free trial keys in with the game so i can snag one off of a buddy.

I would wait the first week-month before buying any MMO. Like you I have been burned plenty of times.

Potentially saving $50+ dollars is worth the price of not being on, on release day imo.
