Because CS1.6 is a simple game that is so simple that's it's way to hard to play in the eyes of todays kids...

Games are to simple today.
CoD - unskippable tutorial that forces you to play it through and if you score bad because, well you don't care about the tutor, you get locked from the harder difficulties.
MGS - tutorial is just a small conversation that you either skip or listen to as the part goes on.
HL2 - Tutorial?
BC2 - Did it even have one, don't remember, it was just something I rushed through to get it over with.

With that out of the way, it is my honest opinion that hardcore breaks the game. Think about it.

Let's take BC2 for example, in HC you'll die from one bolt action sniper bullet to any part of the body. Yeah sure it might be realistic but it surely as hell isn't meant to be in the game. Bolt action rifles actually require some skill in softcore and are much better balanced than in HC. HC also breaks stuff like motion mines, almost totally useless when playing HC.

Also imho it's much easier to hip fire and spray in HC. It takes less bullets to kill someone and you really don't need any crosshair in the center of the screen to know where you're shooting. It becomes easier and a more effective method of killing.

In hardcore the guy who shoots first in a 1 on 1 shootout also has a much bigger chance to win the fight than in softcore. Because you need more bullets to kill you have to able to aim and shoot accurately for longer periods of time. Makes it more skill oriented than HC.

etc.

just my take at it. I can understand that you might play HC because it's better for you but it's just that I see too many kids playing HC just because the name is hardcore and they think it's cool and realistic. It's a BF game, it's not meant to be realistic.
Hardcore is a separate mode from the original. If you don't like it, don't play it. It's literally THAT simple.

None of that is fact. All of it is opinion.

YOU may have found the command rose laborious and YOU may have found it distracting, but for those who could use it in a way that it wasn't distracting or laborious, there was no problem.

Given that Battlefield games (of the non Bad company variety) have large maps with spaces in between battle, there was basically nothing to distract you unless you were trying to ask you squad leader for orders in the middle of a fire fight.

Lets compare though.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Asking squad leader for orders.

To ask squad leader for order with command rose: Press T. Click request orders.

To ask squad leader for orders with no command rose: Search right hands side of keyboard for squad chat button, type in "we need new orders".

Which one of those is the most distracting and laborious?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2. Requesting ammo/health/repair/whatever

With commo rose: Press commo rose button, click whichever button is relevant. Relevant nearby classes can see your request on the mini map.

Without common rose: Go searching around the map looking for medic/assault/engi, find them, press Q over and over and over and over again till they MAYBE realize you're asking them for something. Then either get what you need five minutes later or die in the process.

Even if the commo rose version has people ignore you, you're not DISTRACTED from the gameplay by having to manually find and request. Some would say its.....less laborious?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3. Directing your squad for strategic maneuvers/placement

With commo rose: Press T (i think), select a location, click to tell them to "go here"/"attack here"/"defend here". A marker shows on all squad members maps/hud to tell them where they should go and whether they should be assaulting, defending or just repositioning.

Without common rose: Find squad chat button, type in "go to x position" which may or may not be detailed enough to tell them what to do/where to go and if they dont see it in the chat window for whatever reason, that command you gave them is lost forever. You may have to type it in multiple times.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4. Thanking someone for responding to you/helping you.

With commo rose: Press Q, click thanks.

Without commo rose: Find relevant chat button, remove hand from mouse type "thanks". Hit enter. Put your hand back on your mouse.

Which is the most distracting and laborious hmm?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I used to thank medics for reviving, support for re-supplying etc 9.5 times out of ten in BF2/BF2142 simply because it was so easy, and it makes people feel good to help out when they are shown appreciation for it.

Same with acknowledging squad orders. When a squad leader says "attack here" and everyone gives them a quick "roger that", it allows the squad leader to move to the objective knowing his team is actually on the same wavelength and it takes all of a second to do.

Regardless of what you may think about its relevance, the ability to simply (and quickly) say "thanks" or to say "roger that" when given an order by a squad leader made the game much more streamlined and also allowed a stronger sense of TEAM and personal communication.

Something any long time Battlefield player would hold very dear to them. Not just Battlefield players actually. Anyone who believes in tight squad/team work. Communication and info is the key and the commo rose excelled at quick comms and inter-team info exchange.

This is only a FEW applications where the commo rose is a very valuable tool and for anyone to try and denounce it completely as laborious and distracting takes away any credibility they could have had as a competant Battlefield player imho.

Its nothing to do with nostalgia. People dont want a command rose simply to have a command rose. They want a command rose because it worked and worked well in many areas.

Obviously there are things which could be tweaked and streamlined, but to denounce it completely as something that could be removed without affecting many areas of the game is just....meh.

Why would I play it if I don't like it? I never said I play HC. Sure I've tried.

I just don't like to see comments like: "sofcore is only for casuals" or "hardcore is the only right way to play the game".

I was just responding to a post with my own opinion.
