[Youtube] Battlefield 3 - Bolt Action Sniper, Shotgun And vehicle Gameplay (HD) - Page 14

I think we need to edit the OP to remind people this is locked settings Alpha gameplay. Every other page is another "This looks so bad and disappointing! Too bad this is an accurate representation of the final product."
EDIT: Like the post above...

As for the command rose, frankly I like the idea, just rarely used it. I got tired of trying to get a cohesive squad in pub games, and usually if I play, I'm in a squad that's in Ventrilo. Still, the rose is useful for requesting rides in vehicles. I don't think it would be all that hard to include it in the PC version and simplify/remove it for consoles. Dragon Age (1) had an MMO-style action bar on the PC and an ME-style scroll-wheel for consoles.

If you don't know to use it, don't. For everyone else, it helps A LOT. I play BF2142 and BC2 in my clan.... we communicate through Teamspeak but when you 8-12 guys in chat, it gets confusing. We could go to individual squad channels but then we can't communicate to other squads.
I used it but it doesn't mean it's the all-heavenly solution that people make it out to be.

Requesting supplies - made redundant really as it was mostly intended for tanks and since you have infinite ammo in tanks.....

Spotting enemies and issuing commands - made redundant by the 'point at the objective / enemy' feature in BC2

If a big option screen that covers a good par tof the playing screen you have to go though for a couple of seconds isn't distracting and detracts towards the gameplay, I dunno what is. Also factor in the 'consolisation' factor, the q rose just wouldn't be practical for console play. The BC2 implementation of pointing at the soldier / vehicle is more realistic and more practical for all platforms.

But hey, we all dislike change to the norm (even if it's better / more effective) don't we?
Maybe it takes you a couple of seconds to press a button on the keyboard and click the appropriate option on the screen, but I'm quite sure that anyone else who put in any kind of time will be completing the commands in much less than "a couple of seconds".

Also, a "smart gamer" wouldn't be bringing up the command rose in a situation where it would be distracting them. Maybe you're not actually a "smart gamer"?

As for the "consolisation factor", you've probably inadvertently revealed one of the REAL reasons why the command rose was removed, rather than improved upon like many other things in the game. Maybe you'd like to use that large brain of yours to explain why practicality of console use should affect a system that worked perfectly well on the PC?

The command rose could have been tweaked in many ways to make it more streamlined than its current five year old iteration.

Instead, they removed it from the PC version......to make the console versions equal to the PC version. You've just said it yourself.

Being "laborious" or "distracting" had nothing to do with it. If it was so laborious or distracting, noone would use it. That would be common sense.

However, it was used by pretty much everyone who played Battlefield. Surely such a "laborious" and "distracting" feature would have been shunned by the community?

It wasn't. It was vital for quickly communicating with team mates.

Communicating with team mates quickly is what the comm rose specialised at.

How do you confirm a squad leaders order quickly without the command rose? You cant. You have to literally take your hands off of the controls to do it.

How do you say thanks to a team mate for assisting you quickly without the command rose? You cant. You have to literally take your hands off of the controls to do it.

How do you assign a pinpoint location for your squad to converge on in order to gain tactical advantage without the command rose? You cant. You have to spend time explaining where you want them to go, relinquishing control of your character as you do so.

Therefore, for you to constantly push the idea of the command rose being completely laborious and distracting, when many of the functions it enabled you to complete quickly and easily are LABORIOUS and DISTRACTING without it, you are unfortunately killing any kind of credibility that could exist within your posts.

The present method has its pros and cons, as does the command rose. Removing it totally was not the correct way to iron out its cons. You dont improve something by removing it.

However, as you previously mentioned, improving it was not their priority.

They had to COMPROMISE their quick communication method in order to keep the console and PC versions "equal" and you continually keep making that point as if its ever a good thing to nerf the PCs abilities to "match" a consoles.

Whatever though. I'm not sure you're worth discussing this with.

So if you and another guy are working alone, he gets shot.... do you start yelling "HERE I AM! COME KILL ME TOO!"?

It is a simple solution to a relatively complex problem.

Many medics and assualt forget to do their jobs and drop packs. Or how many engineers who forget to repair. You have to remind them.

How do you tell someone to follow me in BC2?
How do you say yes/no in BC2?
How do you thank someone in BC2? (This helps build comradery which is necessary for unit cohesion in games and real war.)

What's your Battlefield names? I am curious about your stats for being a "smart player".

Oh course it won't apply to all situations but it's still more realistic than saying nothing. That and there's the aiding gameplay issue combined with anti-camping implementation. It's a compromise as is with all 'pseudo-realism' games.

When players are positively enforced i.e. rewarded via supply points, they tend to like it more thus will commit to such behaviour. This is why you get, like it or hate it, reward popup everytime you supply or heal someone or kill an enemy player...
Yes, you will get the newbies that won't supply and will happen regardless but tbh, this is less of a problem than it was in BF2.

As stated, there's positive and negative aspects of both so really, the q rose has it's advantages but also many disadvantages. Don't just point out the advantages without the disadvantages.

I only used one, both for serious and 'gaming for the lols' e.g. jihad jeeps etc...

BF2

BC2

However the history tab is a much better indicator of my playing style:

So you're conceding on on the position of:

However, most people (yes, most) don't pay attention. They do not realize that whenever they decide to hold a position, they should drop supplies. Whenever they see a cluster of friendlies, they should drop supplies. Positive re-enforcement does not work if someone is not trained to do so in the first place.

What disadvantage since use of the combo rose is optional?

Also, what negative aspect? Your point about taking seconds to use is moot since it does not. It is appears only for a moment and the most common uses (other than spotting) is not during firefights.

I don't think you should spend any more time here Duckie.

There's only so many times you can point out blatant flaws in a persons argument before you're just talking to yourself.

Mainly the big one being transferring it for console use. Also not conceding at all. If you see a grenade coming towards you, oh yes, I'll just quietly whisper to my comrade it's coming instead of being s*** scared and screaming and running for your life.

EnableComboRose = 1

...and if your comrade was not dropping you ammo, not healing you, not following you, or if he just saved your life?

If you're all alone and someone tossed a grenade into the building.... would you broadcast your location?
