Best Gaming Laptop For 1k ~ 1.5k$ ? ? Help Please

post #1 of 10
Thread Starter
Hello everyone! I am helping a friend decide on his gaming laptop! I know the best place to ask is the faithful OCN! He is in the navy and will be gaming on this laptop a lot while he is doing school there. He does not care of the brand, he just wants a quality gaming notebook.

So far we have basically found that on most websites such as Cyberpowerpc or Ibuypower the best laptop he can get for under 1500 has a GTX 560M in it and an i7 2630QM.

Are there any other laptops out there that we should be looking at??

He will be playing a wide variety of games , such as WoW , Guild Wars 2 , Oblivion , CoD and more.

Thanks ahead of time for your time , would really really appreciate advice!

Alienware is always a good bet.
The M17x with no customs is $1499.99, but that's no fun. Here are the specs

PROCESSOR Intel® Core™ i7 2630QM 2.0GHz (2.8GHz Turbo, 6MB Cache)
OPERATING SYSTEM Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit
MEMORY 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz (2DIMMS)
VIDEO CARD 1GB GDDR5 AMD Radeon™ HD 6870M
HARD DRIVE 320GB 7,200RPM HDD
LCD PANEL 17.3-inch WideHD+ 1600 x 900 60Hz WLED
WIRELESS CARD Wireless 802.11 g/n
INTERNAL OPTICAL DRIVESlot-Load Dual Layer DVD Burner (DVD+-RW, CD-RW)

I would go with the M14x and customize it a little

* PROCESSORIntel® Core™ i7 2630QM 2.0GHz (2.9GHz w/Turbo, 6MB Cache)
* OPERATING SYSTEMGenuine Windows® 7 Ultimate, 64bit, English
* WIRELESS CARDSKiller™ Wireless-N 1103 a/g/n 2x2 MIMO
* MEMORY6GB DDR3 at 1600MHz
* VIDEO CARD3.0GB DDR3 NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 555M
HARD DRIVE500GB 7200RPM SATA 3Gb/s
INTERNAL OPTICAL DRIVE8x SuperMulti DVD±R/RW Slot Load Optical Drive
SOUND OPTIONSInternal High-Definition 5.1 Surround Sound
PRE-INSTALLED GAMESSteam and Portal™ Factory Installed
* PRE-INSTALLED GAMESWorld of Warcraft Preinstall Edition
* GAMING SOFTWAREWoW: Cataclysm Expansion for PC
* OFFICE SOFTWAREMicrosoft® Office Home and Student 2010

* = tweaks I did that added to price. The final price was $1800 but if you don't want Windows ultimate, that drops the price $150, The 3Gb video card, instead of the 1.5Gb was an extra $100, Cataclysm was an extra $40 and the Office Student suite was $120.

If you didn't do any of those you would be well under $1500. I feel that they're worth it though. BUT, He probably owns Cataclysm, it might be cheaper to get the office suite from somewhere else and the 3Gb is probably overkill, but you came here to ask.

I've had an Alienware desktop since 2003, It's stable, came overclocked and is still running like a champ. Note: I did get it before they were bought out by Dell, results may vary.

Hope you find a good one for your friend.
Prost!

X3. Not going to beat Sager on price-to-performance ratio.

OR... If your friend wants a beastly gaming laptop, this has a GTX 485M and i7 2630qm, etc, for $1500. http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np8150-clevo-p150hm-p-2972.html?wconfigure=yes

Alienware might be good or whatever, but on price? lachen.gif Sager, hands down.
