Overclocking AMD Phenom II x4 965BE

Thread Starter
Aiming for 4.0, running a H60. Load temps at 3.8 are below 55. My question is as a new AMD overcocker(switched from big blue) what should my hyper transport bus be set at? and what should my north bridge voltage be?

As for north bridge voltage there isn't a set voltage you should be at, you want to it to be as low as possible, just like anything else.

IIRC the hyper transport bus is almost as important as the CPU clock, so you would want to keep it as high as possible.

Well i get the voltage thing but im still not sure what to do with the HT bus. Is there a ratio im aiming for? right now its just on auto which im not a fan of.

Also i have HT link speed and cpu/nb frequency. Not used to this many options.

just throwing it out there, these are my 965BE 4ghz settings (my cooling maybe a bit better then a H60 so watch your temps...)

CPU Mult: 16x
FSB: 250
DRAM (i have gskill ripjaws 1600): 1667mhz
CPU/NB: 2500mhz (i know this can go higher i just didnt mess with it much)
HT Link: 2000mhz
CPU Volt: 1.425
CPU/NB: 1.2 (1.1v stock)
DRAM: 1.65V

Your HT should be close to the stock 2000Mhz as possible. It's been shown that if you overclock it, speed actual decreases. If your talking about the CPU/NB voltage, you should usually keep it around 1.35 to get a solid 2800Mhz-3000Mhz.

This^

You want to try and keep your HT as close to 2000mhz as possible (anywhere between 1900-2100 is ok). You should also try and get your NB up past 2600mhz for your 4.0ghz overclock.

You can usually see really big performance gains from an OC'd NB, and it should help to stabilize your CPU's OC.

The overclock itself is really stable, I ran Intel Burn Test yesterday for about two hours then played bad company 2 for about 3 and it was fine. But I did notice that my G flops went down from 50 to 48-49 in burn test from what my motherboards turbo feature had it set at before i changed the settings myself. I'm assuming this is because the turbo feature had a lower clock of GHz but a higher bus speed. Currently I'm just using my multiplier to up my clock speed. But if the north bridge being overclocked makes that big of a difference ill look into it.
