Overclocking AMD Phenom II x4 965BE - Page 2

Sorry to jump in on this thread, but im in the same boat. New to AMD overclocking, also got a 965BE. Started playing the other day - first OC was easy. 3800ghz at 1.375Vcore and 2600 NB, Prime ran all night no drama's - max temp was 39C i thought awesome.

Then jumped straight in with a 200x20 4ghz. Vcore up to 1.4125. Now it gets hard to work out what was going on. Im not sure if this is a crash of some sort - hope you guys can tell me.

I first left Vcore at stock 1.375 to see what would happen. Prime started then stopped about a minute later. But the computer didnt freeze up and now BSOD either. The desktop just when fuzzy and and icons sort of started flashing. Rebooted - bumped up Volts to 1.39, Started Prime ran for a bit longer about 5mins then same thing - flashing fuzzy screen. Reboot - Volts to 1.4125 Prime was running fine. I left it to go out to the shops and when i got back found the screen was doing funny things but i could still control the programs. Prime had shut down and the last result seemed to have finished and ran for bout 2 hours.

Is it crashing?? my volts were only 1.4125 should i up it more.??

The temps from what I saw IMO see to be decent, not high, if you want to increase the NB Clock to possible 2200 as a start to test, it would grant you better performance. If a stability issue shows up, an increase in the VDDA Voltage may help stability as well as checking the range of voltage you have for the CPU/NB

It may be a good idea to increase vcore to close to 1.45, or lower, in small increments, and if you have the option in BIOS of what your VDDA Voltage is, it may help to know this. The NB being at 2600, the HT with the Deneb CPUs from AMD work better at times depending on the settings with it being close to or below 2000. Stability and performance wise.

Its been proven that a higher NB/CPU will gain a better performance. Try to get it to 2800MHz stable.

I'll give that a shot when I get out of work tonight and give results.

This is correct that the NB Clock does increase performance for the CPU, but with an increase in the NB it will at times require an increase with the CPU/NB Voltage. A voltage range of 1.2-1.35 is usually the range, but it would be advised to try to keep it between 1.25-1.3v. At times a higher voltage can cause unstable issues with AMD. There isn't an exact setting, but each system will have that little "sweet spot" for this voltage.

A slow increase to 2400 on the NB Clock to make sure the current voltage settings and frequencies are stable would be recommended. In case of an issue later, it will help yo determine if the RAM, Voltage, or HT Clock was affected by the NB. Those will only be addressed later though to limit confusion of course. The NB Clock will also hopefully give an increase to RAM performance, but may have a chance of decreased performance.
