Data stuck on broken laptop, what to do? - Page 2

sata on laptop and desktop are the same (2.5" laptop sata drives work in desktops, see my BEVT 500 gig in my e6400 rig)

But pata = ide are not the same on laptop as opposed to desktops (see adapter posted above)

No it goes from the desktop's PATA (IDE) controller + molex power to the laptop hd (the pata on the laptop has the power through the 2 pins the molex adapter is plugged into

If you don't know what the HDD is, or if the PC you're using for retrieval doesn't have SATA, you can get one of these:



Should cover all bases, 2.5" PATA/SATA to USB
