Best Value MSI Hawk GTX460 vs XFX HD-687A-ZDFC Radeon HD 6870

Hi - would appreciate your help in whether I should wait to buy a card for a new build or buy one of the following based on the discounts/credits in my newegg account.

FYI - these prices I am listing are specific to my account (so please do not wonder if these are specific coupons/etc.)

1. Existing build is :

Processor: i5-2500k
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3 matx motherborad
Memory: Corsair 8gb (2 X 4GB) ram
Power Supply: Antec 750 Earthwatts
Case: Antec Mini P180 Black.
Graphics card: GeoForce 7900 GS (which say to least does not run games well)

This build is already running great.

2. I don't need SLI/Crossfire, will just utilize one card.

3. I don't necessarily have a tendency to overclock, this is the first time ive done with my cpu/motherboard combo.

4. I can get the XFX HD-687A-ZDFC Radeon HD 6870 (dual fan) for $137 After Rebate (AR).

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...20HD-687A-ZDFC

Or

MSI N460GTX Hawk GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) 1GB for $107 AR

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...wk%20GTX%20460

I am not a heavy gamer but do have some games like Batman, Civ 5, Portal 2, etc. that I would like to play.

My main objective is to get the best price/value.

This is where I need your help. Do I spring the extra $30 to get the XFX card or stick with the MSI one.

I understand I lose the Physx capability which I tend to like, but I'm aiming for value/bargain here.

Or is it better to wait a couple of weeks to see if there is any new promo in August.

The discounts/credits I have in my newegg account expire 7/29.

Thanks!

I would recommend the 6870 over any GTX 460 because (it seems like I say this all the time) the 6870 price/performance has one of the best price/performance ratios out there, and the performance itself is amazing!

Thanks for the input, I'm thinking the extra $30 I could recoup by selling Shogun/Dirt 3.

I would just hate to see a significant price drop on the other cards after I buy, i know its normal, but i am just trying to maximize savings.

The MSI card has great reviews too but only 3 years warranty, where as the XFX one has lifetime, though ive heard of poor service complaints, i think there is a thread here on it which is ongoing.

I would have preferred to find a deal on a EVGA card, but haven't seen one out yet. I know newegg on memorial day had the superclocked GTX460 from EVGA for like $110 AR, but I missed out on that one.

Good plan lol. I hate to say, but prices constantly dropping is life these days kinda sad... I will say, XFX doesn't have the best service, but the looks, and the warranty is worth it!

Good luck!

The 6850 is also a good card, and still brings down the 6870's awesome price/performance ratio. In other words, a $109 6850 is WORTH IT!

I personally would save up and buy the 6870 because of the higher gpu and RAM clocks.

Choice is up to you, but like I said, (for me) 6870 over 6850

Doesn't a 6850 CF beat a GTX 580 in terms of performance? That link doesn't show up for me as $109 AR though, are you factoring in other discounts?
