RAID controller for SSD RAID 0 on ASUS Rampage 3 Black Edition

I'm looking for other card possibilities for my upcoming build. I'm going to be running 4 Intel 510s in a RAID 0 format. Currently, I'm looking at this RAID card by LSI:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816118107

I'm thinking there might be a compatability issue with it and my board though... I'm also in the market to possibly try a different raid card anyway. I have done some research. I'm looking for other high quality manufactures that wont put me in the poor house. I'm willing to spend about 6-700$ if need be on the RAID controller.

I'm also going to run 4 Western Digital 1TB drives in a RAID 0+! for storage. Is there a card that supports 2 RAID configurations? I was going to use the on board RAID controller for the storage configuration but I prefer to use one peripheral to control 2 RAID configurations, if possible.

Thanks for any insight!

9260 is a POS for high end right now. Newegg has a 15% off controllers right now, which puts the 9265-8i at around 550 and will almost double the performance. The 9260 wont even come close to being able to handle those drives.

Now about compatibility. You should be fine. If you have problems with it in the bottom PCI-e slot just move it up one, but I only had that issue with an early bios on the Asus X58 boards.

Really, is there a code for this 15% off? I was thinking of going with that card but the first feedback post for the 9265-8i says that the BIOS wouldnt recognize the controller card with the mother board I'm running lol. Maybe I will just give it a shot....

Hey guys,

Just want to chime in regarding the compatibility of the LSI 9265 and the Asus Rampage 3 Black Edition board running the shipped bios version 0404 (release bios.)

I, too, read the reviews from folks who were having a hard time getting the R3BE to work with this board - however I was in disbelief, so I dropped 600.00 on the card (thanks for the promo code btw, saved 100 bucks!) and tossed it on a build we're doing for CPU Magazine and it worked like a champ.

The trick is to disable the SATA3 ports on the board. Once you do this, the RAID controller will pop up in the boot options and you can boot without any trouble at all. Make sure to download the drivers from LSI's website, and make sure to remove your removable media before formatting a boot drive (the flash drive you will likely use will mount as c:\ in almost all configurations.)

In case I save someone panic, make sure to keep the installation media for windows in your drive smile.gif I gave myself a panic attack when I received error 0x80300001 thinking I couldn't install to the RAID I had configured... then realized I had pulled the windows media. LOL - you'd think Microsoft would kindly say "Please insert your media...."

I hope this helps! If you see this post in more than one place, it's because I'm hopping around to the different forums correcting this misconception after successfully getting this to work.

Enjoy!
