I ALWAYS was COOL with the refurb idea, till like I said I bought this gateway off newegg. It went to **** after 3 months, it's like they just fixed it so it would work for only a few months.......

I figured I could get lucky b/c some people on Ebay are students who are upgrading selling MINT ones....

BTW, I could "pony up" and buy the new 2011, which is a thought.....

but then again, I could "pony up" and buy the i7 version 17" blahbalh.... It just never ends, I need to draw the line....

So none of you guys think the Toshiba Portege, battles the Macbook 13.3" core 2 duo models or even the comparable i3/i5 versions????

I always thought the Portege was sexy.....but question if the 13.3" screen is a bit small for college heavy use? (ms word, online homework, some rendering progs for chemistry)
Not necessarily, some are just returned because of financial issues. The majority of Mac purchases can be fixed without having to swap the entire system out.

Don't let one refurb experience bring you down. And it's Gateway...not the best standard to judge the rest by.

And don't go for the i7 version of the 2011 13" MBP; it's still a dual core. The i5 version is the best bang-for-the-buck.

13" should be fine for most use. Yes, bigger (screens) are always better for the eyes and layout, but then portability is a factor, and I know you don't want to pay another ~$800 just for another 2" on the MBP (there are of course, the bumped specs, but you get what I mean).

Yeah, I was actually surprised by the 13.3" laptops.

there not as tiny as I expected. I kinda want a smaller laptop, since it seems technology is moving toward more portable things, and even though you can have higher resolution and more "power" on a 16-17inch, there just ugly to me.

I'm going to check the refurbs now on apple, even though I don't feel comfortable with it.,.....
