with peter being intel unfortunately its the other way round. AMD already confirmed that the IPC speed is going to be a touch slower than the phenomII's but that having more (8) cores overclocked and AVX would make up for this and would net more throughput overall. So if optimistic I see it will play out this way:
Yes an 8 core bulldozer may offer you similar computational throughput as a 2600k but it will be at the cost of IPC performance and power efficiency and as such people looking for a a system that is not affected by single thread performance ie video encoding etc will get budget performance beating intels price point but people looking to play games that need screaming IPC speed will be disappointed.
Although i'm curious to see how much the IPC speed on bulldozer increases if you were to interleave cores ever other one so that each module only had one thread active and worked like a normal core then possibly ud be able to clock above 5.5Ghz and rival a 2500k perhaps idk.
