What you said is:
You can't add non-Valve games to Steam.

What I'm saying is:
You most certainly can, there are nearly 100 non-Valve games whose physical box copy serial keys can be registered onto your Steam account.
Its ~80 it looks like.

You can't go add random games on steam and have them activate. It just doesnt work. People keep QQing about origin doing the same thing.

Obviously steam set up something with said publishers with specific games. (From what it looks like those games require steamworks) Such as a game like Black Ops or Modern Warfare 2.

Like I said, name ONE game that doesn't utilize Steamworks and can activate on Steam.

Pretty much full list of all Steamworks games:

http://forums.steampowered.com/forum....php?t=1712878

Versus games (Steamworks and not Steamworks) that can be registered onto a Steam account with their physical serial key.

Steamworks does not mean VAC.

Quote:
On January 28, 2008, Valve released Steamworks, a free development and publishing suite (granted at Valve's discretion or with an Unreal Engine 3 license)[32][33][33] that gives developers access to every component of Steam.[34] Specifically, Steamworks provides means of games to integrate with the Steam client, including networking and player authentication tools for both server and peer-to-peer multiplayer games, matchmaking services, support for Steam community friends and groups, Steam statistics and achievements, integrated voice communications, and Steam Cloud support; the API also provides for anti-cheating devices and digital copy management.[34] Steamworks can be combined with a standard Steam distribution agreement, the latter of which gives it advertising space in the Steam store but also provides Valve with a share of revenue; Audiosurf became the first game to be released in this way in February 2008.[35] Several major games have since implemented Steamworks, including Aliens vs. Predator, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Fallout: New Vegas, Unreal Tournament 3, and Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II. Most games using the Steamworks API also opt for a presence in the Steam store. The only known exceptions (since Valve does not make announcements about such games) are NBA 2K9,[36] and Supreme Commander 2 for Mac OS X.[37]
Support for developer choices are provided. But it doesn't mean all are used.

-___________- Are you guys kidding me? Your OWN QUOTE says it. VAC is PART of Steamworks. A game is not Steamworks if it does not use VAC. Find me a game (I should point out an online game since that might not be obvious) that is Steamworks (by your definition) that doesn't use VAC.

Whens the last time you played NBA with vac?

or AVP?

or FEAR?
Steamworks provides access to said API's, but the developers do not have to implement them.

Civilization V is a Steamworks title. It does not use VAC.

You've still yet to answer my question. Name one title on that list that doesn't use Steamworks. Go on.

Mmmmm NBA nor FEAR are Steamworks games; you can install and play those standalone without Steam. That's what I've been getting at: a Steamworks games means the game HAS to be activated on Steam to be played. You can't just pop in the physical CD and install and play without ever going through Steam (unless I'm mistaken on that detail and then that would render my entire argument wrong) I'm not sure about AVP as it came out in the era where I was already buying everything through Steam.

Gotcha, ok now. So I was wrong on the VAC piece, but games that are on Steam are not automatically Steamworks. Back to the original debate: the list of ~80+ games on Valve's own site are not all Steamworks.

I hate it when people are wrong and they just won't admit it.

F.E.A.R. 3 is a Steamworks title. It has multiplayer. It does not use VAC.
