Elegance such as Apple and Sony laptops costs money my friend.

The main reason why its 3 grand its cause it has a 256GB SSD, that alone will cost $400 to $500.

I was considering the z series. They're expensive though. I would have to get the 13".

I'm going about 2000 miles away for college. I don't think it would be worth it.
Really, even though I am not really into Macs, the 15 inch MBP is a pretty nice laptop. Dedicated card for light gaming, great battery life when you're not, thin, nice hardware, back-lit keyboard, and you can always put Windows 7 on it.

Don't give in to the pressure! Stay clear of them!

nice, solid and not Apple

Go for the sony Vaio Z series. They are ultra portable raid 0 SSD's and mine handles all my steam games at high settings, cooling is sort of an issue, but that's how it is on every laptop. Lighting fast, and very very light weight I think it only weighs like 3.5 lbs, or something it made out of carbon fiber, and the battery lasts a solid 5 hours, best decision i ever made.

I'm of the same mindset on Apple, but alot of people have been telling me great things about the MacBook. Moving so far away and starting new might just be the thing needed to give it a try, I know it would me.

How would it not be worth it? If you are moving that far away and you have downtime, which believe me you will, I am almost done with my Bachelors (4 years) and I had ALOT of downtime between class and schoolwork to mess around. You would have a computer dedicated to gaming, and then a netbook / tablet for classwork.

Thank you! I think the Vaio Z series is currently my top choice.

I just don't want to have to worry about shipping it from LA to Chicago and back when I'm on break. It seems like it would be a major hassle. If anyone can convince me otherwise, please do.
