hey guys, im just about to order my brother's new pc, but then one thing struck my mind. it was that in like 2 months or so, i will upgrade to 3 gtx 580 3gb models, so why not give my old 6970's to my brother and buy the 580s now?? will this be a good idea?? and imagine if i buy the 580s, will my cpu be a bottleneck at stock speed?? if yes, will it still be if I OC it to 4000mhz??
please answer fast!!! thanks

Don't tell me that 2600k is running on stock speeds.
If it's true this is not the right place for you. jk\\
Seriously overclock it to at least 4500 mhz.

You seriously have it at stock settings? Man, you don't know how badly people wanna smack some sense of a 4.6Ghz + OC into you and your PC. XD

But it will SLIGHTLY Bottleneck it @ stock speeds, so OC it to 4.5Ghz + but I recommend 5Ghz.

A Core i7 965 @ 3.8 GHz will sometimes bottleneck 3 gtx 580 but that honestly doesn't matter since that only happens when the fps is way past 120. So what does this mean for you? Well a stock 2600k will probably run most games without any significant performance loss. A 2600k @ 4.0 GHhz there should not be any bottlenecking. All this is of course based on stuff I read on the net as I dont personally own 3 gtx 580's.

If it does bottleneck, it will be slight unless running lower resolutions. I'm assuming you are going to be running very large resolutions if you are running 3x GPU's so it shouldn't bottleneck much at all I would think. Some of course, but not much. That CPU is sooooo easy to get to 4.4, much less 4.0Ghz and would eliminate 99% of any bottleneck. I left mine on complete auto settings but changed my turbo multi to 45x, it was that simple. A 40-43x multi should be a no brainer. Even with stock HS you could do 4.0Ghz no problem I would think.

You'll be fine. Just overclock it to 4.0-4.5GHz or higher, and any bottlenecks that are there will magically disappear. You can do 4.0GHz on the stock cooler, so it shouldn't be that hard.
