I'm pretty sure my setup displaces less hit in my room than any lower power consuming air cooled setup, from either company.
So the point was, don't sacrifice performance for lower heat output, design your cooling solution around getting the best performance with the least amount of heat dissipation into your room.
Does that make sense? Any setup from Nvidia or ATI run in a non climate controlled room is going to run hot, and that heat is going to build up, and that build up is going to heat up your room which is already hot because you don't have climate control.
clear, it seemed to me like you were trying to argue that your 400 series Nvidia card wasn't as hot as people here were saying.
But yes, that's about right. But water cooling and an external rad isn't a solution for everyone, unfortunately. Some have to sacrifice in one area to benefit another.
I've actually been tempted with the idea of an externally mounted rad and internally mounted one with a valve on each one. That way, I can choose between venting heat outside or inside, depending on the temperatures each place (or even both!).
